Introduction
For anyone who has been diagnosed with Bipolar disorder this condition causes both physical and psychological problems that are of a state that can seriously affect their lives on a daily basis. The most important thing to understand about this condition is that the person suffering from it will experience extreme mood swings ranging from mania or hypomania to depression. As a result of these variations in the person’s moods the condition was in fact originally called manic depression and many people still refer to bipolar disorder as this.
However the description described above can be somewhat misleading as this particular mental illness is much more complicated than you just going from being depressed to elated. Today it is quite common for someone to be diagnosed with bipolar disorder who happens to be depressed 99% of the time and suffers the occasion manic episode.
As the medical profession still do not fully understand this condition many studies are still being carried out. But they do believe that the main reason people suffer from bipolar disorder is that certain chemical and electrical elements within their brain aren’t functioning correctly. Also through the studies carried out what they have found that those who do suffer from this particular form of mental illness usually are from a family where other members of it have suffered from some form of mental illness as well.
