- Rating: 1 out of 5 stars1/5Informative, but not what I'd call a BOOK... An article would be a better description, and I believe Scribd is being a little greedy/dishonest labeling this as a full book to spend credits on. I'll certainly read the "book" details more carefully from now on, and I feel Scribd should refund the credit. The service is already hardly worth it for me, so this will nudge me closer to cancellation.
Also, some basic information is out of date. - Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Simple english. No techie stuffs. Damn good for beginners. Covers most of the basic jargons

Bitcoin - Benjamin R. Schofield
Forward
As a free-market advocate, I've been intrigued by the idea of a free-market currency. Considering all the manipulation of fiat currency in most countries, and all the economic devastation caused by the manipulation, there must be a better way to create a common and efficient currency free from government intervention. So far, Bitcoin is the closest thing I've found that meets the criteria.
During my research, I found many books and articles on the topic of Bitcoin. However, most contained complex explanations that seemed to be designed more for math wizards rather than the average layman. As a writer, I decided to synthesize the information into an easy-to-understand book for those who want to gain a good understanding of Bitcoin without experiencing brain overload.
How To Use This Book
The first part of this book covers an introduction to Bitcoin, the basic explanation of currency and a brief history of Bitcoin. Since I don't know the level of knowledge each reader has on these topics, I decided to provide this information as a foundation for those who need it.
If you are well-versed in these foundational topics and want to skip ahead to the details and benefits of Bitcoin, simply start at Chapter IV titled How Does It All Work?
. These later chapters will give you details on Bitcoin currency, mining and exchange to help you determine if it's right for you. I hope you enjoy it.

I. An Introduction to Bitcoin
Bitcoin has been in the news recently, and for good reason. It is one of the most exciting IT developments in years, and the first time that a true alternative to government currencies has come around in our lifetime. Bitcoin has been getting stronger and stronger relative to the Dollar and the Euro, and is finally starting to break into the mainstream. Just a few years ago, Bitcoin could only be traded with other enthusiasts, and pay for very select IT services. But now it is possible to buy all manners of products online, and sometimes at restaurants and hotels.
A few people have made small fortunes off Bitcoins, and many more are starting to wonder if this is a business opportunity they might be interested in. You don’t have to be hotshot programmer or a PhD computer scientist to get in on the action.
This book is for anyone who wants to know what all the fuss is about. How was Bitcoin started, how does it work, and what can it do for you. By the end, you’ll be able to make an informed choice about whether you want to start using Bitcoins, and you’ll have all the information you need to get started responsibly and safely.
You might even be able to answer other people’s questions and become the Bitcoin guru for all of your friends. Some of the details are technical, but they are not beyond you. We’re going to start from the very beginning, with how normal currencies work, talk about the philosophy that drove people to create a digital currency, and finish with the practicalities for breaking in to the exciting world of Bitcoins.
