The idea of Jazz Chordal Hanon is excellent, but a great idea like this deserves more thoughtful editing and more exercises. It's much, MUCH better than nothing, but it's a shame the author did not spend another couple of days polishing it into something really first class that includes even more exercises. I grade it 4 stars because sometimes an exercise key cycle breaks in the middle of a system instead of at the start of a new system. And I have in my imagination tweaked some of the exercises, for example ending some ii-v-i exercises on a minor 6th instead of on a minor 7th. Still, I have played every single exercise and am now going through every exercise a second time with the intention of repeating them all many, many times until they are completely fluent with eyes closed. So in a left handed sort of way, I guess this is actually a very, VERY positive review. I hope there will be a volume II someday or a drastically enhanced volume I.
