About this ebook

Travis talks about his ongoing battle with his insurance company to get social skills training. He is very high functioning but socially awkward and wants to be like other people. Travis knows social skills coaching can improve his quality of life and he shares how so with the reader in this book. He offers useful tips for advocating for better services for your child with autism.

Travis shares how he is bullied and ignored by his insurance company in this excellent book. Travis hopes to win his battle with the insurance company over social skills coaching and he is staying positive. Travis shares just what social skills coaching is and how it helps him as well as how it could help your child with autism in the same way as it helps him. This book is full of useful self-advocacy tips that you could use to advocate on behalf of your child.

Here is an excerpt from the book.

"I feel like if the insurance companies and doctors would just listen to me I could tell them the exact services that I need in order to overcome autism. If they would just listen to me then they would know what I needed and if they spent a year or two providing me with the services that I need they would not have to pay for the other therapies they are paying for now which are more expensive.

I have been trying to get help with social skills for ten years. I was trying to get help with social skills before I ever even got diagnosed with autism. I was diagnosed with autism in 2007 at the age of 22. Long before that I had started going to counseling because I wanted to learn how to talk to girls about dating and I had no idea how to connect with a woman on that level so it was very challenging for me. I went to a counselor to begin to ask him what was wrong with me. I wanted to know why girls did not like me and I wanted to learn how to get them to like me.

I cannot stress enough how important these simple social skills are. I had a lot of great social skills in the fact that I am very verbal and have very high functioning Asperger Syndrome but I do not understand the unwritten social rules. I want to understand them better so I am able to interact with people; make more friends; and maybe get a girlfriend one day down the road."
