About this ebook

A courageous cancer survivor shares daily words of spiritual encouragement for people of every faith.

More than ten years ago, Denise Barrow was diagnosed with stage four breast cancer—a transformational experience that inspired her to pick up her pen and begin writing daily encouragements to her friends and family. A difficult circumstance can be a weight that feels impossible to lift and it can test your faith. Through positive thoughts, the power or prayer, and faith, the weight can lift little by little. Denise’s daily words are based on Bible scriptures, told vividly with compassion and unwavering wit, but intended to free us from “religion”—that organized system of beliefs, practices, and man’s way of doing things—so that we can serve God and His purpose in our individual lives.

In her inimitable book, Denise candidly shares her long and personal journey of recovery and how she not just talks faith but joyfully lives faith even in the face of difficult circumstances. Denise touches the soul, mind, body, and spirit of all who believe—regardless of religion—teaching, ministering, and evoking healing in all of us. Her daily words will prayerfully help you to value the gift of your life, inspiring love and forgiveness that will unite us all in God’s purpose!

Denise's Daily Word - Denise Barrow

    VERSE:

Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ. By whom also we have access by faith into this grace wherein we stand, and rejoice in hope of the Glory of God. And not only so, but we glory in tribulations also: knowing that tribulation worketh patience; And patience experience; and experience hope:

    —ROMANS 5:1-4

    THOUGHT:

Utilize your faith to overcome hindrances. Faith cannot alter purpose; it can, only acts as an agent to assist in fulfilling the predetermined purpose to God. There’s nothing like time to show us that we have misplaced our priorities. I don’t know about you but I wouldn’t trust my future with anybody but God.

    My personal testimonial prayer:

Father God, I thank You for allowing me, Denise Yvette Barrow, to witness and experience firsthand the power of exhibiting FAITH in Your Word, Faith in Your promises, Faith in my praise, Faith in my belief of YOU, Faith in my worship, and Faith in the love that You have placed in my heart for Your people. For I know, Lord, that if any of it was of me, this would be a different prayer. Lord, I believe and trust You for my life and the lives of those reading this prayer. Lord, only You know what we stand in need of. We thank You for Your delivering power, Your grace and mercy that You so freely give. I thank You for complete healing, finances, for a sound mind. I thank and praise You for the freedom from depression in Your people, for comfort and for peace. Oh Lord, I thank You for LIFE, life on earth and life everlasting. I choose to ask nothing of You, Father God. I just came to thank You today. I come today with the heart of prayer and praise of Thanksgiving. Though I am sick in my body, Lord Jesus, I believe You for my healing. I know I am making the enemy really mad at me right now, because he hates us to praise and worship You. I am FULLY persuaded that, what You promised, You are also able to perform it, in the Powerful Mighty Name of Jesus Christ, Our Lord. Amen.

    VERSE:

But if we walk in the light, as He is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanseth us from all sin.

    —1 JOHN 1:7

    THOUGHT:

Imagine, if we walk according to how He/Jesus walked, we have fellowship with each other. If we take the time to look at the latter part of this scripture, the BLOOD of Jesus cleanseth us from ALL sin. First, we must understand that, when the suffix eth is attached to a word in the Bible, it means to continually occur. Therefore, when this scripture states the blood of Jesus cleanseth us from sin, this is a continuous act. It cleans you today and it will continue to cleanse you in the future. Take a biological look at blood. Through blood, we can tell who we belong to through DNA. So if we are covered and cleansed with the Blood of Christ and we are in Christ, this makes us one with Christ and joint heirs with Christ. Therefore, we are related through His blood. His Father becomes Abba Father (Our Father). This is why I can comfortably say that ALL on this list is my FAMILY! Without the Blood of Christ, we cease to have proof of our sonship to God. Yes, more on this list are my physical biological family, but, the Word teaches us that we are one through Christ. We are joint heirs with Christ, meaning ALL that He is entitled to, we are entitled to also. Wow, did ya’ll hear me? I am feeling this, but let’s go a little more deeper. I’m putting on my Registered Nurse cap for this one. We NEED blood in our bodies in order to live. It is the main element in our body that affects every part of our body. It carries oxygen, nutrients and healing factors (WBC, RBC, platelets) that are necessary to sustain life in EVERY cell of the body. If blood is restricted from any part of our body for a long period of time, that body part will die. Every part of the human body needs the blood. Are ya’ll getting what I am saying to you? The physical body is illustrating the POWER of the BLOOD of the Body of Christ. Every member of the Body of Christ needs the life-giving Blood of Jesus. When DNA proves we are our natural father’s children, saying and believing that we are covered through the blood of Christ, we now share the same father as Him. Know that, without the Blood of Christ, we are not true heirs but people who are trying to get the inheritance and promises of God reserved for the legitimate sons and daughters of God! I don’t know about you, but I AM A LEGITIMATE DAUGHTER OF GOD. I am confident in my inheritance and I trust God for ALL of the promises that He has made to me. This is why being diagnosed with Stage 4 breast cancer NEVER beat me and it never will. God NEVER spoke it to my soul or spirit as my lot in life. He has made me some promises that I have yet to see and until I see and experience them ALL, I will be right here praising His Holy name and spreading His prophetic Word, praying for all of us to be covered in the Blood of Jesus. And believing and trusting that, as Frankie Beverly and Maze sings We Are One. Praise God and thank Him for the Blood of the Lamb.

    PRAYER:

Abba Father, which art in Heaven, we come to you daily with our hands lifted up and our hearts filled with praise. We know that it’s your grace and mercy that has brought us through, but we have the understanding that it is the POWER of the Blood that sustains us. Lord, we ask for forgiveness for any and all sin, whether done in deed or thought, knowingly and unknowingly. Forgive us for unforgiveness. Forgive us, for not walking in love with one another as we are in this journey together as one big family in You. Lord, I thank You for everyone that shares the Word in their daily walk. Father, You have given me the esteem pleasure to have people in my life that show me a piece of You every day. Thank You, Lord, for love, peace, understanding, humility, the Blood of the Lamb and the blood that runs through my veins. Father, thank You for all that fear You and keep Your statutes. Thank You for loving us enough to allow us another day to get it right. It is in Jesus’ Name that I pray. Amen and Amen!

    VERSE:

Though he were a Son, yet learned he obedience by the things which he suffered.

    —HEBREWS 5:8

But as for you, ye thought evil against me; but God has meant it unto good, to bring to pass.

    —GENESIS 50:20

Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he who is in the world.

    —1 JOHN 4:4

    THOUGHT:

Go through your go through! Count it all Joy. You are going through what you are going through or went through to be a blessing to someone who WILL go through the same thing. Depending on how you handle your go through can determine and enable someone to come out of the situation or prevent them from going through at all. A wise, younger cousin of mine (Sheryl) recently told me, the way I handled the death of my daughter gave her the strength to deal with the loss of her daughter (Storm). I initially looked at her like she lost her mind, because I was a hot mess when Nyleve did not survive her life. Sheryl reminded me that for years she has watched the way in which I live my life, that I have survived a lot of adversity with a smile, joke and love in my heart. To her the mere fact that though I wanted to die and attempted to make that happen, that was over twenty years ago, I am still here. The mere fact that I suffered near-death experiences with my asthma and now the cancer, she stated she has watched me and admired my strength and I am still here. NOTHING BUT THE GRACE OF GOD, through me and my faith, helped her through her go through. All of this was said to me during her daughter’s funeral and I can proudly say that Sheryl is living a great walk of faith in our Lord, she is at peace and she is STILL here. Storm’s father eloquently gave Sheryl peace by saying to her, that she named her Storm as storms come through with strong winds, make an impact, then leave. Family, don’t pray away your storms, walk through them, cry through them, pray through them, stand still if need be, but whatever you do, go through them. When God wants to do a work in you and your life, He will put you in a place of aloneness. At this time He will begin to speak to you. It is up to you to take heed to your storm and take the time in the quiet place to hear from God. Try NOT to miss the opportunity God is taking/putting you aside in order for you to hear from Him and be obedient to Him. God’s Word is a mirror to you and a mirror doesn’t lie. You see what you see. You have every idea of what you are dealing with in the mirror. It’s when you begin to change what you see, the problems and lies come about. You’ll begin to talk differently, think differently, act differently, walk differently, choose your friends differently and you will even begin to praise God differently. So look at yourself in the mirror and notice your change when you begin to feed yourself the Word of God. In the midst of your mess and change, continue to praise God. The time it takes for your change to come is up to you. God already knows His plans for you and the timing of his plans. The longer you take to become obedient to God’s Word and laws, the longer it will take for your change to come about. Only God can fix you. Realize that disobedience causes delays of all kinds of things; blessings, healings, transformation and victories. Just because these things can be delayed, it doesn’t mean they will be denied. Begin to learn obedience through your sufferings. Know that what the enemy means for your bad, God WILL turn it out for your good. This I have found to be true for myself: greater is He that is IN me than he (me) that is in the world. I take this scripture to mean me being in Christ is far greater than me being in the world, living my life any ol’ kind of way. I also take it to mean that the God that is inside of me is far greater than the enemy of this world, which is anything and anybody that is contrary to God and His laws. My God is an awesome God; He reigns in heaven and earth.

    PRAYER:

Lord, I come to You today with a loving, open, pure heart. I thank You, that I am living in the fullness of You. Lord, I pray that we learn that our obedience is the cause of our blessings, change and growth in You. Lord, I ask that You break the curse of people being connected to others who have empowered themselves to fail, for those connected to them will fail as well. I thank You for Your Word that You have imparted into us. It has proven to be the greatest gift given to man. Lord, I ask that all of the dreams and visions of Your people be manifested moment by moment. As we walk in obedience to Your call of us to You and Your ways, protect us from the wiles, tricks and traps of the enemy. If it is Your Will that we have to go through, I thank You in advance for it. I thank You for what the enemy sets out to kill, steal and destroy, You have placed a protective hedge around me and turned it into the best experience of my life. It was in the storms, the valleys, the deep pits and darkness that I learned who I am in You. Lord, I know that You desire to bless us and I thank You in advance for all that You provide when my mind is stayed on You. I can’t thank You enough for Your peace, love, understanding, pardons, grace, mercy, blessings, healing, patience, chastisements, flat-out whippings/whoppings and delays. I will never forget ALL that You’ve done for me. I pray for Your people as well as myself this morning in the name of Jesus Your Son, my joint Heir, my Savior. Amen.

    VERSE:

Now the just shall live by faith: but if any man draw back, my soul shall have no pleasure in him.

    —HEBREWS 10:38

    THOUGHT:

Know that the value of faith is not about your lifestyle. As most people that God healed and dealt with were sinners. BUT, they were healed and drawn to Him because they believed. They had FAITH. The thing that moves God is faith. You must believe God! God will move in your life according to your faith, not your experience.

    PRAYER:

Father God, in Your infinite wisdom, I come to You today asking you to help Your people with their faith. You said all we need it to be, is that of the size of a mustard seed. Forgive them for any lack of faith that they exhibit. I trust and believe You are who You say that You are. Our Mighty Counselor, our Comforter, our Keeper, our Protector, our Provider, our Prince of Peace, our King of Kings and our Lord of Lords. Keep us in Your presence as we begin to see and experience the manifestation of You in our lives. In the mighty name of Jesus, I pray. Amen.

    VERSE:

And whatsoever ye shall ask in my name, that will I do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. If ye shall ask any thing in my name, I will do it.

    —JOHN 14:13-14

    THOUGHT:

God will give you whatever you ask for. You must first ask. You also have to be careful of what you ask for. Not everything you want and ask for is what is best for you. Therefore, don’t get upset if you asked for something and you received it and it didn’t quite work out the way YOU hoped it would. It may not have been a part of what God wanted for you. But He is a keeper of His word and you asked for it, so, He obliged you. Know that He will give you a business, He will give you a dream and He will make you the head and not the tail. Believe God for your household. Believe God for your deliverance. Believe God for your purpose. And believe that WHATEVER you ask of Him you will receive it.

    PRAYER:

Heavenly Father, I come to You today humble in your presence as Your child by faith in Christ Jesus. I thank You for strength when the storms of life are raging. I thank You for giving Your people the desires of our hearts. I ask that You help us to stand in the liberty of the freedom that You have given to us. I come to You as a believer, believing that whatever I ask for in Jesus’ name, I will receive it. Father God, I ask that You bless the people on this prayer list and whomever they share Your word with. Give them all that they ask for above what they could ever imagine or foresee according to Your Will and Your Word. I thank You for Your grace and mercy as You continue to finish the work that You began in us. In Jesus’ precious name, I pray. Amen.

    VERSE:

O GIVE thanks to the Lord, for He is good. His love endures forever. O give thanks unto the God of heaven: for His mercy endureth forever.

    —PSALM 136:1 AND 26

    THOUGHT:

Our thanks rise from the nature of God and His glory and goodness. The reason we give thanks is because God is good and His love is inexhaustible, beyond decay, and neverending. God is God all by Himself; He doesn’t need our help. His mercy is new every day for us and it lasts beyond our last breath. There is NO end to God’s grace, mercy or love toward us.

    PRAYER:

O great Lover of my soul, thank You for sending Jesus as the demonstration of Your love. I love you, Father. I love You for who You are and what You have done. I love You for what You have promised. I love You for the blessings You shower upon me. I love You for giving me hope. I love You because You first loved me. I love You because You gave Your only begotten Son, so that I may LIVE. I love You because You are worthy of all love. But, I confess that my love is not as strong as Yours. I desire to exhibit the kind of unconditional love toward Your people that You so effortlessly do daily. Please, fill me with Your love by the power of the Holy Spirit. Through Jesus I lift up my heart to You. Amen.

    VERSE:

If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land.

    —2 CHRONICLES 7:14

    THOUGHT:

I don’t know a better time than today to get on your knees, stand in your closet, sit down with your hands clasped, whatever, wherever or however you do it, it is time to have the most powerful prayer life imaginable. The times we are living in, is cause to put on the whole armor of God and begin to speak to the Father. As you seek His Will for your life, our loving Father said that whatsoever you ask in His Son’s name you shall receive it. But in order to have this happen, we must first humble ourselves. We must want to come out of purposeful sin. That is, sin that you know you’re committing. God is calling for His children to stand in the gap for one another and when we do that, He will do ALL that we desire of Him to do for us. He will heal the world of its ills.

    PRAYER:

Holy Father, the lover of my soul, I come to You as your child. First giving honor and all praises due to You. Asking that You forgive me of any sin in my life. Anything that I have said, done or thought of, that was not of You, I ask that You forgive me. As this world has major ills, I ask
