This collection of anecdotes, experiences and memories reflects the differences in lifestyle and customs. The growth of the tourist industry and the modernisation of many parts of Singapore, including offshore islands, have made many of these experiences impossible today and those of a nostalgic nature, and with experience of the past and present Singapore, may regret the diminishment of the ‘flavour of the East’ as a result of the invasion of the tourist tribes.

    After twenty years of health & business writing, including authoring or co-authoring 11 books and numerous articles, Patricia J. Parsons took her first bold step into creative non-fiction with the publication in 2009 of her memoir Another ‘Pointe’ of View: The Life and Times of a Ballet Mom (Dreamcatcher Publishing), a book that chronicled her unexpected life as the mother of an elite ballet dancer – all the more surprising in a hockey-mad country like Canada, since that dancer is her son.Following up on that experience, she took her considerable research skills to her second passion: historical fiction and women’s fiction. She is the author of the novels Grace Note: In Hildegard’s Shadow and In the Shadow of the Raven.By day, she is a Professor of Communication Studies at a small, east coast university.
