- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Caroline Winthrop is the pseudonym of a well-known romance author in the early 90's who wanted to try his/her hand at a spy novel. I'm guessing the experiment didn't turn out that well, as I cannot find any other books by this author. And I haven't been able to identify who the famous romance author is either.
That being said, I did enjoy this book. It reminded me of the type of spy/cold war novels being done so well back in the 80s and early 90s, and which I used to devour. This had a bit of a slow beginning and the characters were really hard to identify with; however, about half way through the book the action kicks in and the characters become fleshed out and more real.
If you like older espionage novels with more than a hint of romance and drama thrown in, you'd probably enjoy this read. You'll have to hunt up an old paperback copy though because I doubt very much your local library has this title and I don't think it was ever re-released, other than the 90s paperback version. Worth checking out though if you come across one in a used paperback store.
