About this ebook

“A lyrical masterpiece.” —School Library Journal (starred review)

Originally performed at the Kennedy Center for the unveiling of the Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial, and later as a tribute to Walter Dean Myers, this stirring and inspirational poem is New York Times bestselling author and National Book Award finalist Jason Reynolds’s rallying cry to the young dreamers of the world.

For Every One is exactly that: for every one. For every one person. For every one who has a dream. But especially for every kid. The kids who dream of being better than they are. Kids who dream of doing more than they almost dare to imagine. Kids who are like Jason Reynolds, a self-professed dreamer. Jason does not claim to know how to make dreams come true; he has, in fact, been fighting on the front line of his own battle to make his own dreams a reality. He expected to make it when he was sixteen. Then eighteen. Then twenty-five. Now, some of those expectations have been realized. But others, the most important ones, lay ahead, and a lot of them involve kids, how to inspire them: All the kids who are scared to dream, or don’t know how to dream, or don’t dare to dream because they’ve NEVER seen a dream come true. Jason wants kids to know that dreams take time. They involve countless struggles. But no matter how many times a dreamer gets beat down, the drive and the passion and the hope never fully extinguishes—because simply having the dream is the start you need, or you won’t get anywhere anyway, and that is when you have to take a leap of faith.

A pitch-perfect graduation, baby, or inspirational gift for anyone who needs to me reminded of their own abilities—to dream.

My book club read a number of Jason Reynolds’ titles and enjoyed them all, so I was excited to discover this short memoir. Mr. Reynolds subtitles it: “A poem. A nod. A nothing to lose.” I like this. For Every One shows readers how it feels to be a dreamer, asks if “making it” really matters, and offers encouragement. Printed in a typewriter font interjected with large, capitalized italics, Mr. Reynolds’ words feature wise, yet humble advice and honest sharing. The refrain: “I DON’T KNOW NOTHING ABOUT THAT” is like a chorus that helps me think about my own ignorance, while acknowledging that I’m continually learning and growing. A slim, heartfelt, inspirational letter of a book that is perfect for graduates … and For Every One.

Don't be fooled by this little book! Jason Reynolds has all my admiration these days. What a wordsmith! This small book is really a poem in form but also a sort of series of letters acknowledging the struggle of chasing our dreams but also the fight to never give up. When the title states it's "for everyone," it really is. If you're a dreamer of any kind of dream, this one is a good one. It'll take you maybe 10 minutes to read but it'll leave you pondering the words for hours.

For Every Oneby: Jason Reynolds 2018 Caitlyn Dlouhy Books 4.0 / 5.0 A fast, but deep, volume of poems that could be used as meditation or affirmations, and written as if it was a letter. They are simple, and direct and encouraging. The lay-out and type are perfect, and highlight courage and the importance of dreaming. This volume gives us courage to take that first step, the power of dreams is For Every One.This was originally performed at the Kennedy Center for the unveiling of the Martin Luther King, Jr Memorial, and later, as a tribute to Walter Dean Myers .Awesome letter!

Loved, loved, loved this short little poem/letter/advice book. As the title suggests it's truly for everyone regardless of where you are in life. It's an encouraging note of affirmation that we all have dreams and we all deserve to have them. Unlike self help books this slim volume isn't telling readers how to act, think, or believe. It's reaffirming what we already know is deep inside of us and letting us no that we are not alone and we are not failures. It's beautiful, heartfelt, and utterly quotable. This is perfect for everyone and is a book I will return to again and again.

Very fast read that is probably appropriate for multiple reads, or at least a slow enough one that would brinv about proper reflection. Book is a poem/letter to the dreamer that exists im all of us, even if we think those dreams are dead or if we’ve deferred on our dreams until a later date. Reynolds affirms the dreams of everyone no matter the size, and no matter of gow they have been re-imagined or constructed over time.

I love Jason Reynolds. This latest book is a poem of encouragement, of holding onto your dream and believing in it. It isn't syrupy sweet, though - it feels real and honest and loving.

This was in my mailbox today.
    A fifteen minute read,
Tears in my eyes, slowed me down.

I need to hear it now, read by Jason.
    You do, too.
    Go--I'll wait.

    It's for me.
    It's for others.
    It's for everyone.
    It's for you.

For Every One, by Jason Reynolds, Atheneum Books for Young Readers

For You.

For Me.

A NOTE: When I started writing this, I didn’t know what it was. A poem in form only, a letter written in parts, an offering that I’ve now been working on for years.

A thing.

But when I think of it now, and the process of it all, I realize that it was basically just the undoing of… me—a twenty-something clinging tight to the nugget of thin air I referred to as my dream. And as the meltdown happened, I realized that many of the people around me were melting as well. My friends who stayed up all
