    Introduction

In Milcha Sanchez-Scott's one-act play Dog Lady (1984), a young woman, Rosalinda, dreams of escaping the barrio as she trains for a marathon. When her neighbor, an ineffable but powerful healer, decides to help her, Rosalinda's quest for glory becomes a wild chase as she is given the dog spirit—a benign but chaotic enchantment that makes her run like the wind. Included in the Best Short Plays of 1986, Dog Lady was first produced at INTAR in New York City, from April 27 to May 27, 1984. With a cast of lovable, funny characters and positive themes, Dog Lady encourages its audience to seek the good in others in order to build a stronger community and brighter future.
