Past continuous

Was/were + verb + ing Us the past continuous to describe an action in progress at a specific moment in the past. At six oclock last night I was driving home. On April 1st I was staying with some friends in the country. Two incomplete actions taking place simultaneously. Ellen was dancing to the music while Alan was talking to a friend. An incomplete action in the process of happening, interrupted by a completed action in the past. The teenagers were speeding when the policeman stopped them.

Questions

Was he working? Yes, he was. No, he wasnt. Were they working? Yes, they were. No, they werent

Simple Past or Past continuous


Use the past simple for a completed action. I took the photo/ I saw the news. Use de past continuous for actions in progress. They were writing a song/ I was sitting at home. They were playing golf when it started to rain. His mobile rang when he was driving. We heard the news when we were sunbathing (prendre el sol) in Corsica. He was looking at the tower when someone took his back. I was having a coffee when I saw her. She saw an accident when she was walking to the shops.

NOTA: Acci llarga, sutilitza past continuous. Wow was your weekend? It was great. This time yesterday I was walking on the beach. Why couldnt you sleep? Because the neighbours were arguing again.
