NERVES IN HAND

MEDIAN NERVE

Enters hand through the FLEXOR RETINACULUM; Supplies: Muscles: -

Lumbricals 1 and 2; 2 Thenar muscles o Opponens Pollicis m o Adductor Pollicis Brevis m o Flexor Pollicis Brevis SUPERFICIAL Head Palmar aspect of 3 fingers and Thumb and of the dorsal aspect of the said fingers Skin on the palm (NB!: this is supplied by the Palmar Cutaneous Branch of the Median n)

Skin: -

Median n injury: If ABOVE the Palmar Cutaneous Branch: Sensory disturbance in the skin of the palm, 3 lateral fingers and thumb plus of the dorsal aspect of the said fingers; Weakness in MPJ flexion and PIPJ extensioin of the 2 lateral fingers (unable to make fist); Absence of pincer grasp Loss of adduction, opposition and flexion of the thumb;

If BELOW Palmar cutaneous Branch: All above EXCEPT that there is NO loss of sensation over the skin of the palm.
ULNAR NERVE

Dorsal Cutaneous Branch comes off approximately at midforearm, winds around the medial aspect of the forearm.

It supplies skin on the dorsal medial aspect of 1 medial fingers of the hand. As nerve descends in the forearm under FCU and approaches the wrist it becomes superficial and crosses onto the hand within canal of Guyon, tightly bound to the Flexor Retinaculum by the fascia. Within the canal it lies medial to the Ulnar a and lateral to Pisiform. Just before entering the wrist it gives off Palmar Cutaneous Branch which lies ABOVE Palmar Aponeurosis. Skin: Medial side of the palm. At the distal border of Flexor Retinaculum the Ulnar n divides in: Superficial branch supplies skin over 1 medial fingers; Deep branch supplies: All Interossei mm Hypothenar mm o Abductor Digiti Minimi m o Opponens Digiti Minimi m o Fexor Digiti Minimi Brevis m Flexor Pollicis Brevis m (DEEP head) Adductor Pollicis Lumbricals 3 and 4
RADIAL NERVE

Does not supply muscles on the hand. Skin: Lateral 2/3 of the dorsum of the hand Proximal part of the lateral 1 digits
