Evidence for the Specific Development of Step 2

Steps 2. Research on the social, political and ethical dimensions of education, including researching into how to cater for a diverse classroom, and what research and Framework/Policies suggest teachers do.

When? Ongoing. Starting from now, the start of trimester two and continuing throughout this trimester.

How? Search for articles and resources such as policies using the library and other resources on the Internet. Pick up resources through my other subjects at University, such as subject EXC440: Teaching for Diversity.

What evidence will I have? - Have researched framework and policies for other subjects at University. - Started a folder including the resources I have found. - Will continue to read articles and find resources on classroom diversity.

Throughout the Trimester I have researched a range of policies and resources on the Department of Education and Early Childhood Development (DEECD) website and collected articles relating to creating an inclusive classroom environment. Through my research on the DEECD website I have found a variety of policies which relate to social, political and ethical dimensions of education. The following are some examples of policies I have collected: Aboriginal Inclusion Action Plan Wirnalung Ganai: Our People Aboriginal Inclusion Action Plan 2012-2014 Wirnalung Ganai, the Departments Aboriginal Inclusion Action Plan, aims to improve the cultural safety and inclusion of departmental workplaces and to prepare the groundwork to support an inclusive system of early childhood service, school education and associated services, vocational education and training, and higher education (DEECD, 2011). Multicultural Education Education for Global and Multicultural Citizenship: A Strategy for Victorian Government Schools 2009-2013

The purpose of this new Education for Global and Multicultural Citizenship is to equip all students with the skills, knowledge and attitudes needed to prosper and thrive in a world characterised by global mobility and cultural, political and economic connectivity. The outcome of this strategy will be that Victorian government schools are supported to equip all their students with the knowledge, skills, attitudes and intercultural literacy needed for active and multicultural citizenship (DEECD, 2012). Child Protection and Mandatory Reporting Protecting the safety and wellbeing of children and young people mandatory reporting protocol Protecting the safety and wellbeing of children and young people, is a joint protocol of the Department of Human Services Child Protection, Department of Education and Early Childhood Development, licensed childrens services and Victorian schools. The protocol ensures a shared, unified and consistent approach to protect children and young people. Additionally, the protocol defines the roles and responsibilities for all school staff (DEECD, 2011).

Additionally, I have collected a range of articles that relate social, political and ethical dimensions of education. The following are some examples of articles I have collected through my own research and through another subject at University I am studying called EXC440: Teaching for Diversity, The Moral Dimensions of Teaching This article is a collection of 10 essays that discusses the nature and commitments of teaching as a profession and the moral mission of education and its implications for the teaching profession. It includes information on educational philosophy, moral values, teacher responsibility and the teacher student relationship. Through my Teaching for Diversity subject I have access to a range of documents relating to the social, political and ethical dimensions in education such as journals relating to diversity, inclusion and schooling in areas of class and social background in schools, gender and schooling, Indigenous Australians and schooling, special educational needs and disabilities in schooling and gifted education.
