Course Description:
Creativity and its cultivation will look at the recent research, theory and educational practice
concerning creativity, with special attention to creativity in students within inclusive educational
settings.
Course Objectives:
Students will be introduced to concepts, theories and research associated with creativity
in inclusive learning environments
Students will reflect upon their philosophical beliefs concerning intelligence, thinking,
creativity and the individual
Students will be able to encourage creativity in a wide variety of learning situations and
curricula through the recognition of creativity and creative potential, fostering inclusive
techniques and creative-process promoting exercises
Students will develop a creative self-awareness

Class Policies:
Attendance and punctuality are vital
Active participation during class discussions, exercises and activities is strongly
encouraged
Assignments must be handed in during class time or stamped by personnel in the
Education office (EDUC 614)
Late assignments will be penalized 5% a day
All items contained in the course outline are subject to change at the instructor's
discretion

Evaluation Philosophy:
The creative process is affected by the instructions or guidelines of an assignment
The evaluation of a creative process/product affects how students creatively engage
o Assignment criteria and evaluation for this course is designed to maximize the
creative potential of the student
o Assignment criteria details and evaluation rubrics for course assignments will be
a collaborative effort that highlights how assignment design and assessment
impacts upon creativity
Reflective Journal
Addresses the class topics, activities, discussions and readings
Outlines the author's analysis, critique and judgment of the material
Connects the author to the material in some practical sense
Article Summary & Critique
Select research article that explores an aspect of creativity
Summarize and critique the research process and findings of the article
Concept Maps
Map 1: Illustrates the major concepts encountered in the course and the links between
these concepts
Map 2: Illustrates the connection between course concepts and personal constructs
associated with creativity
Creative Activity/Exercise
An exercise/activity designed by the students that will involve class participation, a
learning outcome and an inclusive "creative experience, process or product"
The exercise/activity will be designed, implemented followed by student reflection upon
the planning and running of the activity
Students work in groups of 3 and the activity/exercise has a duration of 40-50 minutes
Workshop Presentation
Highlights a creative resource or strategy in inclusive education
Presents the research or practice background as established in an academic journal
Presents both a theoretical review and practical implications
Demonstrates an innovative presentation format
Students work in groups of 3 and presentations will have a "fair" format where students
will circulate to appreciate each presentation
