Dear Concerned Citizen, Thank you for your email regarding the S.S. Badger. As you may know, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is scheduled to make a decision on the S.S. Badger's permit by the end of the year. I know this lingering decision has caused great uncertainty in the Manitowoc area, and I am hopeful it will be resolved quickly. Earlier this year, Wisconsin, through our State Energy Office, awarded the S.S. Badger a grant to help accelerate the conversion process away from coal to allow the S.S. Badger to operate in a manner more protective of our Great Lakes. In light of this and in response to the concerns you and other citizens raised, I recently asked the EPA to temporarily extend Lake Michigan Carferry's permit to provide for a period of time to find a solution that keeps the ferry sailing and Lake Michigan better protected. I have attached a copy of my letter to the EPA to this email. Thank you for contacting me on this important issue. Please feel free to contact my office again on this and any other issue in the future. Sincerely, Governor Scott Walker
