Nicole Lee Professor Letcher Global Climate Change 20 November 2012 Impacts of Climate Change on New Jersey The

constant climate change has an obvious impact on the Northeast region and on New Jersey. Seven of the ten warmest summers on record have occurred within the past 12 years. One of which occurred in 2011 being the third warmest summer since 1895. College students can remember the days back when they were younger. The summers were hot, but not scorching and unbearable, and the winters were cold with snow, but they were still enjoyable. The effects of climate change on New Jersey are apparent in the last couple weeks alone. Sandy hit Jersey hard with her strong winds and rain, and the nor'easter hit shortly after Sandy had finished. In an article titled Climate Change is Real, and Here, it states that the most conservative predictions indicate that the state can expect to see an additional one-foot sea-level rise within the next 40 years. The cause and effect is very clear. This crazy weather that everyone is talking about is all due to climate change. There are many theories as to what the cause of climate change is. There is evidence that because of the increase in carbon dioxide emissions into the atmosphere

from human activity, the Earths surface temperature has warms by over 1.3 degrees Fahrenheit. The increase in temperature contributes to the rise in sea-level, which affects the coasts such as the coasts of New Jersey. In Climate Change in New Jersey: Temperature and Sea Level, reports are shown that precipitation and runoff are predicted to increase in the Northeast in both he winter and spring, as seen in real life situations the past years. Additional atmosphere moisture is contributing to the amount of overall precipitation in the New Jersey and Northeast region. An interesting report made in the article is that in the past 50 years, the Northeast region has experienced snow pack reductions, indicating a transition to more rain and less snow. In many of the articles and news reports written about the impact climate change has on New Jersey, the main consequence of such is the increase in average temperature, a significant increase in precipitation, and a significant rise in sea-level. However, it is important to keep in mind that it is not only the Northeast that is being affect by climate changes. They affect every corner of the Earth.
