This site shows President Trumans role during the Korean War. It very specifically gives information on even when MacArthur was fired by the President of the United States, President Truman. It also contains a letter from John Foster Dulles to the president to propose a peace treaty. There is a letter asking the president to choose certain actions to order the military, such as sending more troops or pulling them out.

After the UN entered the war, the North Koreans asked the Chinese for help. The article goes on to explain why the Chinese the accepted the plea for help.
