Acting One

Hello, hello! Welcome to Acting One. Acting One is an introduction to the art of acting. The course is designed to introduce the various elements that make a strong actor/actress. These acting devices include, but are not limited to, actors voice, physicalization, blocking of a scene, ensemble building, audition techniques and acquiring an artistic aesthetic. Students will engage in theatrical trainings, activities and exercises with the end goal of creating multiple performances throughout the semester.

Performance: successfully presenting multiple scenes, monologues, and theatrical readings Ensemble-building: building cooperation as a group Trust: building confidence in each other and in ones self Observation: building awareness of the immediate environment Self-confidence; building self-awareness of the mind & body Concentration: building a sense of attention to detail through performance Imagination and creativity: building awareness of the art of theatre Provide opportunity for students to be involved in DCHS Drama

COURSE OBJECTIVES:
Demonstrate effective improvisational techniques Develop movement skills Develop a stage/performance voice Create theatre through artistic collaboration Organize literary material for interpretive performances Demonstrate effective interpretive skills Utilize ensemble sensitivity and unity Form aesthetic judgment

Develop a life-long enjoyment and appreciation of theatre

ASSESSMENT TECHNIQUES:

Performances fulfilling the requirements of improvisations, mime and movement, voice, and memorized scenes Daily movement, voice, and improve exercises Journals Participation in group activities and group discussions Demonstration of effective audition techniques Tests and quizzes
