CAS 201: Professional Communication Applies business communication skills in context.

I gained experience in business etiquette, electronic slide design, resume construction, and interviewing. CAS 261: Introduction to Public Relations I examined the effects of media industries including newspapers, radio television, film, public relations, advertising, media, and the Internet. Final project: handle a PR crisis. CAS 301: Strategic Communication I gained proficiency in corporate communication theory and professional application of it. Topic included market analysis, communication plans, and the role of semiotics in message creation. CAS 311: Team-Based Communication Applies proven techniques of team dynamics to teach collaboration. I learned through personality inventories how to understand, organize, and lead diverse teams. CAS 372: Influence and Persuasion Teaches how to communicate as an agent for change in a media-saturated culture. Focuses on management, semiotics, propaganda, and selling. Final project: press conference in which I defended a position in a current national controversy. CAS 411: Communication in Organizations Analyzes how communication functions in organizational settings, applying contemporary theory. Final project: My team conducted a communication miniaudit of a local Best Western hotel.

IAS 499: Teaching Assistant Public Speaking I critiqued and graded student speeches, giving feedback to help them enhance their later presentations. I taught a class, motivating student engagement to increase learning. MCM 115: Introduction to Media Writing I learned to use AP style to take careful notes and create effective news stories. Examined journalism ethics. MKT 231: Principles of Marketing Examines the basics of the marketing system and marketing strategies. MKT 412: Advertising and Promotional Strategy I learned to create and conduct a promotional campaign using varied media television, social media, Google AdWords, mailings. Final project: I worked with a team to create a promotional campaign for Rush Locks and Keys. The proprietor said that our presentation was much more useful than our competitors. PSY 272: Research in Psychology I learned how to conduct creditable research and synthesize the results. Final project: create a research proposal for a study to expand Psychologys knowledge of distraction. PWR 320: Writing For Business Emphasizes real world experience and application. I practiced writing essential business documents letters, resumes, news releases, reports, proposals, memos, and instructions.
