The first vintage of 3-Rings was in 2004 when Chris Ringland and David Hickinbotham scoured Barossa Vineyards for iconic and undervalued fruit. With Dan Philips, US importer the Ian Kidd designed Its Magic label was first released in June 2005 with the 2004 vintage. The fruit was sourced from 3 vineyards: Lights Pass Road, Vinevale Gomersal Road, Gomersal Research Road, Kalimna The fruit was held on the vine until super flavours were evident and then vinified at the Langhorne Creek Winery. A reserve wine was also made, featuring 70 year old dry grown Shiraz vines that were crushed and fermented at a purpose built hand operating winery at Clarendon. Wood maturation was 3 years in 600 litre Radoux demimuids before bottling. The 3-Rings Reserve Shiraz is made from 10 barrels of ultra reserve material fruit from 70 year old vines. The first reserve wine, 2004 3-Rings Barossa Valley Reserve Shiraz was released in March 2008 with a score of 96 points from Robert Parker. 2005 3-Rings Reserve Shiraz achieved 92 points. The 3-Rings Barossa Valley Shiraz has achieved 90 or 91 points, consistently from Robert Parker. The sleight of hand that mesmerizes the eye is not unlike the skill that tantalizes the palate. 3-Rings is 100% Barossa, from several old vineyards, beautifully blended by Chris Ringland. The 3-Rings label is 100% Barossa Shiraz.
