Program Objectives
Philosophy- All children deserve a safe and healthy environment to be able to learn and grow to their fullest potential I use a theme based curriculum with guidance from the Wisconsin Model Early Learning Standards (standards shown below) A variety of developmentally appropriate activities and materials are available to encourage children to be involved in the learning process, such as being creative, gaining social skills, small and large motor skills and so on. Our weekly activities include but are not limited to:

Art Sensory Stories Science Small and large motor activities Teacher directed free choice Minimal Sign Language

I provide opportunities for making friends, taking turns, sharing, problem solving and building self- esteem. I do not teach or practice any religious aspects with the children. Wisconsin Model Early Learning Standards Guiding principles All Children are capable and competent Early Relationships matter A childs early learning and development is multidimensional Expectations for children must be guided by knowledge of child growth and development Children are individuals who develop at various rates

Policies Revised 5/2012

Children are members of cultural groups that share developmental patterns Children exhibit a range of skills and competencies within any domain of development Children learn through play and the active exploration of their environment Parents are childrens primary and most important caregivers and educators

Guidance I use positive techniques for guidance, including:

Natural consequences Redirection Problem Solving Encouragement of positive behavior Parental involvement

I will communicate with the parents regarding guidance techniques, to learn what works and what doesnt work and to be able to stay consistent between my home and theirs. I will talk with the children about the rules and what is expected using words for your childs developmental stage. I do not force the children to apologize, as they may not be sorry, but help children recognize other childrens feelings. I will never use verbal or physical techniques that frighten or humiliate a child such as shaking, hitting, binding, forcing or withholding food, even at a parents request. If a child is crying, fussing or distraught, I will try to calm them with rocking, shushing, hugging, or give them a comfort item if I feel it might help. If I do get overwhelmed I will place the child in a crib or other safe place for a few minutes so I can walk away and take time to calm down. If I find that the child if not consolable and I am still overwhelmed after taking a break, I will then call the parent or emergency contact to pick up their child for the remainder of the day. I will use time out periods if necessary. (with children age 3 and older and will not exceed 5 minutes in length). During this time I will take the opportunity to sit with the child or children and talk about the incident or situation and how it may be resolved. If at any time I feel a childs behavior is out of control and may harm other children, myself or my property, I will contact the parent or guardian and have the child removed for the remainder of the day. If out of control actions continue I reserve the right to remove the child from my program on a permanent basis.
Policies Revised 5/2012

Multicultural I am committed to a multicultural education by recognizing and respecting the individuality and uniqueness of each child. This means I have made a commitment to create a program that reflects the varied lifestyles of the children, their families and our community as well as to introduce children to other cultures through music, books, posters and other images. Biting Biting is not uncommon among infants and toddlers. Parents are encouraged to see this as a natural stage of development that a child outgrows. I will work closely with the parents to help meet the needs of the child. I also monitor closely, situations that might cause a biter to bite, and try to find other ways for the child to express their feelings. One of those other ways is through teaching all the children simple sign language. There will be times when the techniques dont work and a child will get bit. Both parents will be notified about the incident and the name of the child who bit will be kept confidential. If the biting gets out of control and other methods did not work, I may determine that the child should leave the program for a period of time. Toileting Children in diapers are checked regularly and changed as needed. Parents are required to bring in diapers and wipes. Toilet training will begin at the parents request. I recommend that children under the age of 18 months not start the potty training process. Children will learn at their own pace and it requires time and patience. Wet or soiled clothing will be placed in a plastic bag and sent home with the child at the end of the day. Licensing does not require me to rinse the clothing out first. Each child is required to have a complete set of extra clothing, appropriate for the season, for toileting accidents. Napping/Rest Periods Naps or rest periods are a part of the daily routine. Infants/ Toddlers will be allowed to follow their own bodys need for sleeping. Children over 2 years will have a nap/rest period from 12:00 2:30pm. Children will be quieted with soft music, low lights. If a child does not go to sleep after a half hour or they wake up early they will be provided with quiet activities to do as to not disturb the children sleeping around them. I will not try to force a child to stay awake at the request of the parents. I feel if a child falls asleep within the hour, they obviously are tired and need the sleep. Cribs, cots, sheets and blankets are provided by Tiny Tots. Outdoor Play Outdoor playtime is important to the development of young children. If your child is well enough to attend that day they are well enough to go outside, except in extreme hot or cold weather. Please dress your child in the appropriate clothing for the weather.
Policies Revised 5/2012

The children will get at least 1 hour of outside time everyday except on days that are extremely hot or cold. If the temperature gets below 25 degrees with the windchill, we will not go outside. During the summer months we do not go outside if the temperature is 90 or above with the heat index. (depending on temperature and humidity) Pets I do have 4 cats and 1 dog on the premises. The children will have access to the cats throughout the day. The dog will be located upstairs and not allowed downstairs. The children will have access to the dog during times we may need to go upstairs. A file will be kept with all the updated information including vaccinations. Parents will receive a 2- week notice of any new pets brought into the home. Toys from home Children may bring toys from home. I do however encourage them to share their toys with their friends. If for any reason the childs toy becomes a problem throughout the day, I will take their toy and place it in their cubbie for the remainder of the day. If toys from home continue to be a problem, I may ask that the child keep their toys at home. I am not responsible for lost or broken toys. It is very difficult to keep track of all the childrens belongings. Birthdays and Holidays I will recognize your childs birthday. You may bring in a treat for your child to share with the group during snack. We will sing happy birthday to your child. Please try to bring in a store bought treat. I celebrate holidays such as Halloween, Christmas, and Easter with decorations and songs. I will not include religious songs, stories videos, or decoration. If you have another holiday you would like us to learn about please let me know. Fieldtrips I offer field trips mostly during the summer. Fieldtrips will be taken with another Licensed Family Childcare. Transportation Children will be transported for fieldtrips by contracted bus. I will make sure the bus company used meets all state requirements. I will have an attendance record of all children on the fieldtrip and will walk through the bus before exiting to ensure that no child is left on the bus.

How meals will be prepared All meals will be prepared on the premises. Specials treats & holidays I celebrate childrens birthdays and holidays such as Christmas and Easter. If your child would like to bring in a special treat I encourage that, I will not provide the treat for your child. Please only bring in items bought from the grocery store or bakery. Make sure the ingredient label is attached. Some children may have allergies to certain foods. Preparation and storage of infant/Toddler food and formula Childrens bottles and sippy cups will be labeled with their name and date. Menu Preparation I will prepare a weekly menu with, breakfast, lunch and PM snack. Evening snack will be crackers and water. The menu is located on the upstairs refrigerator. The menu will include foods that all children can eat unless the child has allergies or other personal restrictions. If your child has a special diet you may bring in foods you would like your child to eat as long as it abides by the meal pattern requirements. Food Allergies If your child has any food allergies please be sure to notify me. All attempts will be made to make food without those items in them. You may be asked to bring food for your child from home. It must meet the meal pattern requirements. Please see guidelines located in packet. Child Guidance and Food There are going to be times that children do not want to eat. I recognize this. I will not force any child to eat their food, but I will try to encourage children to try new foods. Foods will not be denied to any child for any reason, nor will it be offered as a reward.
