Sufficiency of assessment
Validity
Selecting and using an appropriate method of assessment in relation to the skills or knowledge being assessed.
Do the assessments measure what they claim to do?
Authenticity
Does it represent the real world of the topic? Does it capture deep learning?
Reliability
Is the assessment consistent? Could you expect the same range of results in each group? If I do the test today and tomorrow will I get the same results?
Currency
Does it provide evidence that the learner possess the skills and knowledge being claimed? Is the evidence related to the learners current competence?
Sufficiency of Assessment
Forms of Assessment
Forms of Assessment
Initial Assessment
Establishing the previous knowledge, understanding, learning of learners. Assessing levels of literacy and numeracy. Diagnosing preferred learning style. Setting the correct starting point for each individual.
Interviews

Formative Assessment
Assessment is integrated with the learning and takes place throughout the learning process. It gives tutor and learner feedback on progress, showing strengths and limitations of learning taking place.
Summative Assessment
Summative assessment is concerned with the final summing up, coming at the end of the course, unit etc. It is a judgement on whether a student has passed a course and gives a guideline to others, eg employers etc, as to the level of the students attainment.
