Azeri police briefly detain 20 participants in OSCE training in Baku

BBC Monitoring International Reports - Sunday, March 10, 2013 Police in Azerbaijan shortly detained around 20 youth activists taking part in an OSCE (Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe) training in Baku ahead of 10 March rally, Baku-based private Turan news agency reported on 9 March. Turan quoted public relations secretary of European Movement Azerbaijan Parviz Azimov as saying that police accused the training participants of making preparations for the rally to be held in Baku on 10 March against non-combat deaths in the army. Among the detainees were also members of the ruling New Azerbaijan Party, the report said. Police took the attendees to the Binaqadi police station in the evening of 9 March and released them shortly, after the OSCE's Baku office got in touch with the Interior Ministry, the report said. The training had been organized by the OSCE's Baku office at the AF Hotel in Novxani village outside Baku. Original Language: Russian
