Simile- Zodiac Poem The ancient Chinese were avid stargazers who believed that the constellations impacted human life and the natural world. Astrologers were able to use the stars to correctly predict the seasons in order to help Chinese farmers plant and harvest their crops. Even more, the Chinese believed that the time of a persons birth helped to determine a persons personality. Write a short poem about your Chinese zodiac creature using simile, metaphor, and descriptive adjectives. Feel free to use the template below or simply create a piece that connects to your zodiac in a different way. Remember that simile compares two things USING LIKE or AS. If you were born in 2000, your sign is a Dragon. If you were born in 2001, your sign is a Snake. Tiger Fire By Ms. Childress My skin is like a desert on fire Impenetrable and ancient My home is dark as death Full of life and secrets My roar sounds like the depths of earth being torn asunder I am the voice of wisdom I am Tiger I am within you.

Title the strength of a snake My skin is like a plated polished combustion. Obsolete and scintillating color. My home is as cryptic as a faceless murderer. It is small and inexplicable. My whisper sounds like a warning, a vine creeping up your neck, breathing, I can see you, hear you, run I am the energy to an ocean wave, droplets of crystal water roll down my long spine when it showers I am a snake I am within you.

Imagery in Poetry

Writers use IMAGERY to help transport their audience into their imaginations. We can read or listen to poetry, close our eyes and visualize what the writer actually sees or hears. Write a poem that transports us to northern China. To start, you will need to stand on the Great Wall of China by clicking here. What do you see? Create a short poem (5-10 lines) in the box below that paints a literary image. Remember to include metaphors, sensory details, and descriptive language to captivate your audience.

An endless ancient barrier, built by many sufferers one by one from coarse brick. The dim twilight luminescence of the sun shines softly on its substantial solid body. I look to the powerful ground. The trees are a bouquet of a beautiful exotic green. I am careful I do not collapse on the soiled cobblestone. I keep on walking, Walking towards my dream, on the persistently overpowering Great Wall of China.

Taoist Poetry Taoist (Daoist) Poetry emphasizes the natural world and the balance and harmony found among the earth, animals, and people. Choose a singular image to represent your poem (such as the one to the right). You may use the organizer on the left if you choose.

Model Taoist Poem I built my hut within where others live, But there is no noise of carriages and horses. You ask how this is possible: When the heart is distant, solitude comes. I pluck chrysanthemums by the eastern fence And see the distant southern mountains. The mountain air is fresh at dusk. Flying birds return in flocks. In these things there lies a great truth, But when I try to express it, I cannot find the words. by Tao Chien

Gaze into my piercing eyes They will show you your future Listen. My mouth brings a strong whisper, words of wisdom I clamor like a raging forest fire I am the mask of a melancholy willow. I am an impregnable soul. My ears hear the scream of a bird, the hum of a fly, the shrivel of dancing grass. My nose smells bloody animal flesh and musty fine dirt. I am called the king of beasts I am indomitable I am a forever standing lion.
