EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

This report summarizes the research method and information of a suggested class for W.P. Carey business students. Research Method When interviewing Ski Romagnoli, he suggested taking classes with the main topic of communication, problem solving, and public speaking. In his interview, he mentioned multiple times the importance of communication and managing relationships with his clients. Searching in the subject of communication, I found many classes that would appropriately tie in the managing client relationships. This course is relational communication. The class focused on relationships within friendships, families, and the work place- making this class ideal for any business student that have friends, family, and plans on working. Unfortunately this course does not fulfill any General Studies requirements (Arizona State University). Continuing my search in communication, I came across a course called Gender and Communication. There are both men and women in the business world and while the woman to man ratio in the business workplace is not equivalent, it is ever growing. This means there are more and more women joining the business workplace and more men and women having to communicate with each other. This course will explore the similarities and differences in communication between men and women and give a better understanding and help with communicating between the two. Best of all, it fulfills two General Studies requirements (Arizona State University). Gender and Communication Increasing numbers of women in the business workplace mean an increase in communication between genders. This course, COM 316, will help both men and women have a better understanding of how to communicate with each other socially and psychologically. Communicate between man and man is different than that of a man and woman and in this course you will learn how to effectively communicate between the genders for the most successful outcome. While communicate between man and woman is a main topic of this course, other objects are identifying how one identifies with gender and the other forms of gender identification such as transgender and transsexual. Transgender is becoming more publically aware and many people may struggle with communication and understanding of this form of identification. This course will help one better their understandings and communication with these gender identifications (Booth). Based off of former syllabi for this course, other objectives of this course include understanding how one identifies with their gender role, how they become gendered, and how violent behavior related to gender (Way). Some class projects are small group journal discussions and observation and interview papers (Booth). This course is offered both on Tempe campus and online. This course covers both SB (Social and Behavior Science) and C (Cultural Diversity in the US) General Studies requirements (Arizona State University).
