For standard 4:Learning Environment, I chose to use a map of the classroom I am currently observing/ student teaching in through this

semesters practicum. This map also includes a reflection that considers the different elements of the classroom layout and materials and how they affect the students learning. I feel that this is a fitting artifact for this specific standard, as it provides evidence as to how a specific classroom I have had experience in student observing and teaching is structured to be a healthy learning environment for its students. The artifact displays a classroom setting that allows space for children to work in groups by allotting space on the side and in the back of the classroom for children to interact with each other and have more space to work with each other on activities or assignments. Furthermore, the desks are set up in a way that organizes the students in sectioned groups that change frequently allowing students to work with other students on a weekly to monthly basis, showing the successful display of Knowledge Indicator B. Performance Indicator P is successfully shown in this artifact because the classroom layout portrayed in this artifact is altered on a monthly basis. The teacher of this classroom moves around the location of the desks and the students within the groups often to ensure that each student has the opportunity to work collaboratively with their peers. The layout displays a learning environment that clearly outlines the daily routine, expectations, and schedule expected of the students. The learning environment also allows for teacher assistance for students in need of additional help. My artifact appropriately fits the description of Standard 4 as this particular classroom creates a safe and supporting learning environment for all children. The classroom allows space for social work by providing a designated area in the rear of the classroom for children to engage in play, providing toys, puzzles, and other play things. The rear of the classroom also designates space for collaboration of students on an educational level as it provides several computers for students to access during the day. Space for individual growth is also provided through the allowance of just enough space for a child to work, read, or play independently at their personal desk or at a separate table in the classroom. The physical space of the classroom provides students with materials such as books in different libraries, computers, interactive learning boards, and supplemental materials such as maps, toys, etc. in which students can use independently, with a partner, in a group, or under the supervision of a teacher or assistant. This artifact demonstrates my growth as a novice teacher because it displays how I understand the importance of an effective learning environment. Furthermore, this artifact includes a personal reflection in which I discuss how elements of the physical space of a classroom impact child development and growth. Finally, I assisted in arranging the physical space of this particular classroom portrayed in this artifact which outlines my competence of this Standard and how I have applied it to my current practicum.
