Multiplication Facts: Use Known Facts

Home-School Connection Topic 6 English

Your child continues to study multiplication. As well as using 3, 4, 6, 7, and 8 as factors, she or he will be nding the product of three numbers. Your child can use the multiplication facts he or she already knows to nd multiplication facts he or she doesnt know. For example, to nd 3 x 8, you can use a 2s fact and a 1s fact.

Your child can use two 2s facts to multiply with 4, 5s facts and 1s facts to multiply with 6, 5s facts and 2s facts to multiply with 7, and two 4s facts to multiply with 8. Continue to practice multiplication with your child every day. Here is another activity you can try.

Matching Multiplication
Materials Cards with multiplication facts to 10 10 and separate cards with the products for each fact Separate the cards into two setsa factor set and a product setand place them face down on the table. Each player turns over one factor card and one product card in order to find a multiplication sentence match. If the cards match (for example, one card is 3 6 and the other card is 18), the player keeps the cards and takes another turn. If not, the two cards are returned to the bottom of each set and the next person tries to find a match. Continue until all cards have been correctly matched.
