The Artist Sketchbook

The sketchbook represents your experience during the semester that may reveal itself in the form of an art object over time. The most important feature of this project is the process. It is all about cultivating the habit and discipline of carefully and consistently recording your thoughts and ideas in your artists book. It will include the documentation of your ideas, designs for projects, sources of influence and inspiration. Consider using your sketchbook as an extension of your personality as well as continuing to improve your artistic skills. Remember your sketchbook is a tool to better yourself and not viewed solely as a grade. Besides 1-2 monthly home works (25-50 points); use your sketchbooks during free time and at home. Fully experiment and use any style or material you choose. Look for materials wherever you go! (Combine imagery from magazines, with photos, paintings, creative writing etc.) Walmart, art stores, home improvement stores, and flea markets & everyday items are my favorites. Bottled shoe polish, a variety of tapes: duct tape, packaging, electrical.., stencils, assorted markers, pens, papers.are a few supplies to name a few. Students are expected to maintain an artist book with blank white pages throughout the course and to have their camera if applicable.

*These items are expected to be in class each day.

Submitting Assignments on Time

Good work habits learned in school will help when beginning to work outside of school. Im always fair in giving enough time for all to complete projects in a competent manner. If a student submits a failed attempt on time, that student is given another 5 school days to complete the project successfully (outside of class time), and resubmit with no loss of points. Communicate with me if you are having difficulties with a project, you may not be alone. Work missed is your responsibility to complete out of class time, since we keep moving ahead, on schedule. Absences do not extend due dates. See me if you need accommodations. 1. Due dates will be posted on the board and given in advance. 2. Late assignments will be accepted 5 school days after of a project due date however; it will be subject to a loss of 5-20 % of the project's points and this must be completed out of class time.

Tardiness/Bathroom Passes
Please use the bathroom before you come to class. You must come to class on time. Failure to do so is distracting to your classmates and will result in your missing valuable class time.

The most important rule in our classroom is respect. Your classmates and I will listen to what you have to say and respect your individuality, thoughts, and expressions. When you are speaking, you will have our complete attention. Similarly, we will expect the same courtesy and consideration from you. Much of our class time will involve classroom discussions and critique; therefore, you must respect the rights, opinions, and beliefs of your classmates, even if you do not agree with them. Feedback to peers should always be constructive (helpful) not hurtful.
5. Use all equipment and materials respectfully and safely as taught. All students who use art facilities are responsible for maintaining & completely cleaning them daily. If you dont know what youre doing, dont do it, but find out. Mistakes in this class may hurt you and could be costly.
