Month August to mid November

Topic/Theme/Skill
Design : Jewellery, Graphic design (DVD cover, book jacket or poster) or Batik ( wall hanging or cushion). Own choice of theme but in the style of Art Nouveau or Art Deco Learning skills in: - Research/ Investigation -Development of ideas -Use of IT -Handling materials -Production of solution -Evaluation NB. Running alongside the early part of the practical work, an introduction to Art Nouveau and Art Deco and selection of one for more in- depth study. Learning skills in : -Research -Note taking -Discussion/ specialist vocabulary -Extended writing or illustrated presentation*

Major Tasks
Practical work : 1.Negotiate and write a design brief 2.Research/ Investigation of products on the market and images linked to individually chosen themes 3.Produce a range of ideas and develop the strongest 4.Use of IT for research and Drawing/ painting/ photo package for graphic design 5.Make use of a range of appropriate materials, using them in a creative and well controlled manner 6.Selection and production of a solution which satisfies the design brief 7.Evaluation

Assessments
Practical work: -Formative : Individual discussion with teacher ( on-going) -Peer assessment -Summative assessment with written feedback, highlighting strengths and how to improve -Dialogue between pupil & teacher after pupils evaluation process has taken place and as written feedback is being given (summative).This will agree and highlight strengths and how to improve

Expressive project with individually chosen theme Learning skills in: -Selecting a project with possibilities for creative outcomes -Exploration of possibilities -Handling materials -Production of a final solution

1.Look at examples of both styles and pupils research a set number of examples 2. Make notes on historical context, names of designers, style and influences( group work) 3. From their notes, produce a piece of extended writing or presentation 1.Class discussion & brainstorm possibilities, making reference to exemplars 2.Collect reference materials 3.Explore possibilities in two or three dimensions 4.Produce a final solution 5. 1.Explore examples and discuss the surface qualities of prints and techniques 2.Negotiate individual themes and draw out possibilities 3.Produce prints 1.Build on S2 work, reminding pupils of the visual elements & also main design issues 2.
