Bell English IV 28 August 2013 Spider-Man History of Comic Books Do you like reading Comic Books? Do you find superheroes exciting? Comic books arent just for any one group of people, anyone can enjoy them. They are made for pretty much any age group. At first I didnt think I would like them but they have grown on me. I might even start reading them outside of class. Comic books date back to the late 1830s. The earliest known comic book was published in Europe in 1837. Comic books then moved their way towards America around 1900. In the local newspaper they used to have what they called The Funnies or as we know them comics or the comic strip. In the early 1900s comic books were usually just the strips of comics form the newspaper in one book. Comic books didnt really become popular in the United States until the 1930s. William Gaines, an American publisher, started Mad Magazine in 1952. This magazine became very popular. Tpffer and Busch are the main reason the comic books are the way they are today. Even though, Tpffer and Busch mainly made comic books that were aimed at the juvenile audience, they paved the way for the colored comics. Most of the comics in the newspaper were very family oriented. Comics are the reason we have superheroes today. Over time they just all created their own. Jerry Siegel created Superman in 1938, and Joe Shuster created Batman in 1939.

Diaz2 Crime, war, and adventure comics started to evolve and many people complained. Teachers, parents and clergymen complained saying that these comics were portraying violence to children. In 1954, the Comics Code Authority was formed to make sure the comics made for children were censored. In 1962, Spiderman and The Hulk were added to Marvel and became big hits.

The History of Spiderman Spider-Man is a creation of Marvel Comics. The creators of Spider-Man are Stan Lee, a legend at Marvel Comics, Jack Kirby, his artistic partner, and Steve Ditko, who came up with the drawings of Spider Man. Spider-Man first appeared in 1962, in Amazing Fantasy #15, with his own series. The Amazing Spider-Man came out a year later. Peter Parker is a very smart kid. He lives with his Uncle Ben and Aunt May. They are the only family that Pater has. He likes going to school but doesnt have very many friends. He works in a news room. The girl that lives next door, Mary Jane, likes Peter, and he likes her but they wont admit it to each other. One night, Peters Uncle, Ben, is killed by a burglar and from then on Peter is determined to fight crime. Watson and his Aunt May is the only family he has left. Spider-Man has exotic villains, like Doctor Octopus and the Green Goblin. Spider-Man became a daily comic strip in 1997. Spider-Man has many different stories and comic books. Spider-Man eventually falls in love with Mary Jane and in some of the comics they are even married. In my particular comic book they are married.

Summary of My Comic Book In my Comic book, Charlie Weinerman, a guy that Spider-Man went to school with, was doing an experiment and it blows up on him. Charlie is now covered in this suit and if someone sees him they will know who did make the explosion happen and can have him arrested. Hes mad at Peter over it and the police are after him for the explosion. He tells Peter to meet him in front of a bank or he will hurt everyone that Peter loves. Peter rushes to his wife, Mary Jane, and tells her to take his aunt May to a hotel so that Charlie cant find them.

Diaz4 While Peter is talking to Mary Jane, Charlie is breaking into an office and the television is on. The lady is talking about Charlie and how the cops are looking for him. The lady interviews a couple and they knew Charlie from high school. Charlie then has a flash back to high school. The people on TV were mean to him in high school and were being mean on TV too. Charlie hears this and becomes even angrier. The people on TV become famous and all the reporters want to talk to them and show up at their house. The man that was on the TV was in the shower and as he gets out Charlie attacks him. Charlie then realizes that he needs to get to the bank to meet Peter. Peter is dressed like Spider-Man and is hiding from Charlie. Peter is waiting and waiting but Charlie isnt coming. When Spider-Man finally spots Charlie, he decides to expose Charlie and his suit. Spider-Man sends out his web onto Charlies hat, to remove it. Everyone sees him and start screaming and running away. Spider-Man jumps onto his back and knocks him down. They start to fight and as Spider-Man is winning Charlie becomes even angrier. Charlie thinks that no one can hurt him. That is why he acts out towards everyone that tries to. Spider-Man wraps his webs around Charlies body and thinks he has him for good but, Charlies suit can break them easily and does. They fight some more and then Charlie decides that he has had enough and disappears. Charlie shows up to Peters house and breaks in. Charlies goal is to hurt Peters family like he promised.

Personal Review I really enjoyed this comic book, it was very intense and kept me wanting more. I would like to read the whole series though. It starts out good and leaves you wanting more. It makes people want to go out and buy the rest of the series or even more of the Spider-Man series. I had

Diaz5 never really read a comic book before this comic book. This one makes me open to reading, more of them. I would like to read the rest of the Spider-Man series Skin Deep.
