September 2013 President's Note

Greetings, I for one cannot believe it's almost the end of summer! What a busy & beautiful summer we had. It was so great to see so many of you out at all the fun outdoor events around town. We'll be sending out our first printed newsletter towards the end of this month with lots of fun club info. Our August events included Music at the Park, Pool times, watching a movie in the park for MOMS Night Out, Art in the Park, Family picnic, Playgroups at various locations and more. You'd think we like playing outside!

Play Group Changes

After reviewing the survey results from last month (thanks for your participation!), we have made the following changes to our playgroups: Babies 2011 is now meeting on Wednesdays from 10:00-Noon (1/2 hour later) Babies 2012 is merging with the new Babies 2013 group, and the combined play group will meet on Fridays from 10:00-Noon. Babies 2010 has split into two groups: Babies 2010 "Blue" AM will continue to meet on Wednesdays from 10:00-Noon. Babies 2010 "Purple" PM will now meet on Wednesdays from 2:00-4:00. This group also have a once-a-month meet up on Tuesdays from 2:00-4:00pm for everyone! Look for it on the calendar.

Coffee Times are Changing!

Due to low attendance at our weekly coffee meet-ups (affectionately called "Coffee Monday" and "Mocha Mommies"), we're consolidating! Starting this month, there will be one monthly coffee meet-up time, on Tuesday, Sept. 17 at 9:00am. We'll meet at the Starbucks at 7th and Washington. Hope to see a "latte" you there! :)

Art in the Park [August & September] by Anneka

New Baby Corner

Danielle Guinevere Dalgleish was born to Linsey and Charlie and big brother Xander at 7:03pm on August 14. She weighed 9 lb, and was 21 in long!

Art in the Park has been a fun addition to our summer events. The photos above are from August: Story Stones where the kids brought stones to paint. We also had time while the rocks dried to do handprints.

We'd like to welcome all new babies in the newsletter, so let any board member know the details and we'll include it here! And please let us know if we missed you, because we'd be happy to add your new little one in next months newsletter.

Recipe of the Month : Fire-Roasted Tomato and Italian Sausage Grinders

(from Better Homes and Gardens - recommended by Mary Suelzle) Ingredients: 10uncooked hot or sweet Italian sausage links

Italian sausage links (about 2.5 lbs total) 2 14.5 oz cans fireroasted diced tomatoes, undrained 1 28 oz can crushed tomatoes 1 tbsp balsamic vinegar 6 cloves garlic, minced 2 tsp dried basil, crushed 1 tsp dried oregano, crushed 1/2 tsp salt 1/2 tsp crushed red pepper 1/4 tsp ground black pepper 10 French-style rolls or hoagie buns, split 10 slices provolone cheese, halved 3/4 cup roasted red sweet peppers, drained and cut into thin strips Directions 1. Place sausage links in a 5- to 6-quart slow cooker. For sauce, stir in undrained diced tomatoes, crushed tomatoes, vinegar, garlic, basil, oregano, salt, crushed red pepper, and black pepper. 2. Cover and cook on low-heat setting for 6 to 8 hours or on high-heat setting for 3 to 4 hours. 3. To serve, preheat broiler. Place the sausage links on roll bottoms, reserving sauce in cooker. Place a half-slice of cheese on top of each sausage link and a half-slice of cheese on the cut side of each roll top. Place roll bottoms with sausage on a baking sheet. Broil 4 to 5 inches from the heat for 2 to 3 minutes or until cheese is melted and bubbly. 4. To serve, add roasted peppers and roll tops. Serve reserved sauce in individual serving bowls for dipping.

Nature Walk & Craft by Elena

On a lovely day at Mt Pitsgah we gathered for a nature walk with Elena and a craft. It was a lively crowd and a really fun event. We used finger paints & various found objects on paper to create works of art.

Next Member Meeting: September 12

Please join us for our first member meeting after taking the summer off. We'll be sharing more info from the survey earlier this month, making a couple announcements & have an activity for the kids but our main goal will be lots of socializing time for everyone! This will be a potluck-style meeting so please bring a dish to share if you are able. Mention what you're bringing when you RSVP to the evite so we'll have a good balance! Looking forward to seeing you soon!
