INT. KITCHEN - NIGHT The light is off. We hear FOOTSTEPS marching up the stairs. They grow louder -

A door OPENS and a shaft of light shoots across the kitchen floor. The silhouette of a MAN, 30, crosses the frame. The door closes. Darkness. We hear feet shuffle around the room. A light above the countertop flips ON. We see the mans SILHOUETTE in front of the countertop. He opens an envelope and removes sheets of paper and a photograph. He examines the photograph for a beat, then thumbs through the papers. CUT TO BLACK. 2 EXT. EAST 43RD STREET CUL-DE-SAC - MORNING 2

The road is elevated and comes to a dead end just above First Avenue and the UN Plaza. The sun rises up behind the UN Building. The man stands on the edge of the cul-de-sac nibbling on a croissant and drinking coffee. He watches cars and people come and go out of the UN. We hear sirens in the distance. CUT TO BLACK. 3 EXT. PERUVIAN CONSULATE - MOMENTS LATER The man walks by the Peruvian Consulate - he glances at the flag, then he keeps walking. CUT TO BLACK. 4 INT. KITCHEN - MORNING 4 3

The man sweats. He stands beside the doorway that leads to the bathroom. He strikes the wall with his right elbow, then kicks his left knee up towards the wall. He grunts with each thrust. He repeats again and again. 5 INT. BEDROOM - DAY 5

The room is empty save for a desk and a blanket on the floor. The man sits at the desk. of him. He has a foot long ruler in front

2. In his right hand he holds a spool of clear fishing line. He measures out 6 inches of line, ties a knot, then repeats.... CUT TO BLACK. 6 EXT. PERUVIAN CONSULATE - MORNING 6

The man walks casually across the street from the Peruvian Consulate. He discreetly allows the fishing line to unspool through his fingers. The man stops. CUT TO BLACK. 7 EXT. PERUVIAN CONSULATE OFFICE - MOMENTS LATER 7 He looks up at a building.

The fishing line has been abandoned on the sidewalk. It is curled up and looped on itself - a lead sinker is tied to the end. People step on and around it - unnoticed. CUT TO BLACK. 8 INT. BEDROOM - MORNING 8

The man stands in front of the desk. He closes a long rifle case - SHUT. He picks up a small brown match box and removes a small WHITE GUMMY SUBSTANCE. The man shoves the white substance up his left nostril. CUT TO BLACK. 9 INT. VACANT OFFICE - DAY 9

The office room is nondescript and free of any furniture. A large window is OPEN. Beyond the window we can see numerous tall buildings - Manhattan. Beneath the window frame lies the rifle on top of its case ready to go. The man sits on the windowsill. A pair of Swarovski binoculars are pressed to his eyes - he watches below. hear a car drive by blasting Starships Sara. We

After a long beat the man takes the binoculars away from his eyes, stands up and closes the window. He quietly packs the rifle and then pulls out his phone. He dials a number.

3. MAN (calmly) The lights not right. The man quickly puts the phone back into his pocket, picks up the rifle case and walks off camera. The camera remains on the window for a beat the hum of the city. CUT TO BLACK. 10 EXT. ROOF - NIGHT 10

The man stands on the roof of his building smoking cigarettes. The phone in his pocket vibrates several times. He ignores the phone and lights another cigarette. The phone begins to vibrate again. He pulls the phone out of his pocket and holds it to his ear. A beat. I know. MAN

The man walks over to the ledge. On the southern horizon we can see the construction lights of the Freedom Tower. The man lingers by the ledge. MAN (CONTD) I know. (a beat) I can see you. The man looks down. Exactly. MAN (CONTD) One more week. He lingers on the ledge for a

The man hangs up his phone. beat. CUT TO BLACK. 11 INT. ROOM - NIGHT The man sits at his desk. into a leather glove. CUT TO BLACK.

4. 12 EXT. CHINATOWN - DAY 12

Between two hardware stores is a large mechanical shop. The man walks out a side door. He wears gloves and holds tight to a small brown paper sack. CUT TO BLACK. 13 INT. BATHROOM - MOMENTS LATER 13

The man kneels in front of the bathtub - its full of water. He places a small lead box on the edge of the tub. Then he opens the brown sack and pulls out a vial. He looks at the clear liquid inside, then he places the vial into the box, closes it and then positions it at the bottom of the tub. The man takes off his gloves. CUT TO BLACK. 14 INT. APARTMENT STAIRWELL - MORNING 14

The man runs frantically down the stairwell of his apartment building. As he descends the stairs he places something inside his inner breast pocket. CUT TO BLACK. 15 EXT. HEPBURN PARK - MOMENTS LATER The man runs across 2nd Avenue and over to the park. The man heads towards a WOMAN, 30s, and a small boy, 6. The woman looks at her watch and seems to scold the man. He ignores her, bends down, picks the boy up and holds him in his arms. The woman watches them for a beat. gives the boy a kiss on the cheek. south on Second Ave. CUT TO BLACK. 16 EXT. HEPBURN PARK - NOON From a distance we watch the man and the boy walk hand in hand through Hepburn Park as the boy finishes an ice cream cone. When the boy eats the last of his cone the man stops walking. He kneels down. 16 Then she reaches out and The woman turns and walks 15

5. MAN Look at this. The man reaches into his pocket and carefully pulls out a Ziplock bag. Inside is a TRANSLUCENT YELLOW WATER GUN. The boy reaches for it - but the man puts it back into his pocket. The man pulls out a PHOTO and shows it to the boy. The boy nods. The man takes the boys hand and they walk through the park. CUT TO BLACK. 17 EXT. 1ST AVENUE - MOMENTS LATER 17

The man puts his gloves on and then kneels down next to the kid. He puts small leather gloves onto the kids hands. The man shows the kid the photo again - the kid points at something on the photo and nods. The man turns and looks behind them - he sees the Peruvian flag hanging from the consulate office. The man reaches into his coat pocket and removes the water gun from the Ziplock bag. The man carefully hands the water gun to the boy - pointing it at the ground. The man gets at eye level with the boy. The man sternly points at the gun and then at the boy. The boy nods. CUT TO BLACK. 18 EXT. 1ST AVENUE - MOMENTS LATER 18

Water gun pointed cautiously at the ground, the kid walks across the avenue. He glances back at the man - the man casually nods at him - the boy continues across the avenue. CUT TO BLACK. 19 EXT. 1ST AVE - MOMENTS LATER We are close up on the mans face. as he eagerly watches the boy. CUT TO BLACK. 19 He tries to remain calm

6. 20 EXT. 49TH STREET - MOMENTS LATER 20

In the foreground we see the gun lying SMASHED on the curb. In the background we can see the man and the boy hurriedly walking down the street. As they walk the man removes the gloves from the kids hands and drops them into a trash can. CUT TO BLACK.
