Unit 2 Project - Voting and Political Parties

Due Wednesday, October 30th You must choose 3 of the following options
A- Create a Twitter or Facebook account about a political candidate.
o o o o o You will NOT use the real Facebook or Twitter websites. Fake Templates are available via the course website or as a word document. You may choose a current candidate, current or past politician, or a fictional character. If you choose a current or historical politician, you must use accurate information. If you choose a fictional character, all information must be realistic and accurate. o (Ex. If you say he / she is a member of the Democratic Party, the posts and interests must match the Democratic Party platform)

B- Create a tri-fold pamphlet utilizing propaganda to sway voters to vote for your candidate in the upcoming election.
o o o o o o Pamphlets should focus on a real or fictional political candidate. Your task is to convince voters to vote for you and not your opponent. The front fold should introduce your candidate and your opponent. The other 5 folds must each contain one different example of political propaganda. o Testimonial, bandwagon, card stacking, glittering generality, plain folk appeal, and name calling. Each fold must also contain an image, be neat, and colorful. A sample tri-fold pamphlet is available on the course website

C- Write a newspaper article describing current issues and influencing its readers (50-100 Words).
o You are writing an op-ed for the school paper, you must choose one of the social topics below and write a short (2-3 paragraphs) article describing the issue and influencing readers opinions. o Topics: Gun Control, Voting Age, Immigration, Gov. Shutdown, Electoral College, or Women Serving in the Military Draft. o An op-ed template is available on the course website.

D- On a poster, design a Political Party that is looking for votes to hold office.
o o o o o o You must create a new main or third political party (including party name and symbol) Main parties should cover at least 5 main social issues. Third parties should cover at least 3 issues with one issue being its central focus. You must have a statement of why you are creating the party (the Partys mission statement) You must list at least 3 goals your party will fight to achieve. Posters should be colorful, neat, include pictures and graphics. o A sample poster is available on the course website.

E- Produce an ad that could play on TV, radio, or YouTube trying to get people to vote for you in the upcoming election.
o o o o You may make a video recording, an audio recording, or simply write out a script. You should play the role of a candidate, state your political party, office you are running for, a slogan and your stance on at least 3 social issues. Your ad should be approximately 20 - 30 seconds in length. Video commercials and radio ads must be submitted electronically.
