Title of Experience/Artifact: Milk Sanitation WebQuest MOVbands (River Ridge Wellness Day Experience) Date Experience Completed: Spring

2013 Artifact Description: The first artifact included in this standard is a WebQuest created on the topic of milk sanitation. It was used for a health lesson I taught in a class called Seminar in Community and Environment Health Education. The second artifact included in this standard is a lesson plan that was created in the same class and taught at the River Ridge school district when my colleagues and I put together a wellness day for their students to participate in. All the lesson plans were health related and used MOVbands to track fitness levels. Wisconsin Teacher Standard Alignment: I believe this artifact best aligns with Standard Four: Instructional Strategies; Teachers know how to teach. The teacher understands and uses a variety of instructional strategies, including the use of technology, to encourage childrens development of critical thinking, problem solving, and performance of skills. These artifacts align with this standard because they both used different instructional strategies and technology to teach students, provide learning opportunities in a variety of ways, and to differentiate instruction in a positive manner. It shows I am capable of planning and creating multiple lessons that are engaging for students at any age level. The milk sanitation WebQuest also shows that I am able to use instructional strategies; students were to complete the tasks in a pre-determined order so they had the knowledge needed to actively participate in the ending debate. These artifacts demonstrate competency in this standard because it clearly demonstrates my ability to use various tools available to me, as a future teacher, to plan new lessons, which will encourage students and provide a positive learning environment. Not only is it differentiated, but also students can re-visit WebQuests to review any material, as well as to complete assignments on their own time. UW-Platteville School of Education Knowledge, Skills, Dispositions Alignment: I believe this artifact aligns with KSD1.d. Demonstrates Knowledge of Resources; the candidate actively seeks materials and resources to enhance instruction by utilizing school and district resources, as well as other resources available outside the school/district. These artifacts align with this KSD because having the most current resources and materials allow me, as an instructor, to plan appropriate lessons in scaffold learning order and allow me to incorporate technology to further learning. As I created the Milk Sanitation WebQuest, I gathered a multitude of resources and articles to improve my own knowledge, as well as teaching instructions. These artifacts demonstrate competency in this KSD alignment because it demonstrates my ability to get the appropriate materials needed to be an effective health educator. In order to obtain the MOVbands, which allowed the students at the River Ridge school district to track their fitness levels, my colleagues and I wrote

a grant to obtain funding to do so. That act demonstrates my ability to use grants as resources to provide an encouraging and positive classroom, as well as the use of technology. Secondary KSD alignments include: KSD3.b: Uses Questioning and Discussion Techniques What I learned about teaching/learning from this experience: From these experiences, I learned that in order to provide opportunities that meet and exceed the needs of students, it takes a great deal of planning and research. Using technology in the classroom and in the physical education environment can enhance students learning. Incorporating new and exciting health related equipment creates a positive learning environment which keeps students actively engaged. By providing a numerous amount of resources, more learning styles are being reached, which therefore increases the chance of learning to all students. Technology is an important component to incorporate into the classroom. What I learned about myself as a future prospective educator as a result of this experience/artifact: As a future educator, this standard will impact my future every day. I know and understand the importance of using resources, as well as applying for grants to obtain equipment my future school district may not have. Providing multiple instructional strategies will keep students alert, and will target all students throughout my future classrooms.
