Students will work with partners to research how families have changed over time using provided social studies books or computer lab. 3. Students will create a poster to present their findings to the rest of the class. Day 2: 4. After the presentations, the teacher and students will VTS about one of Mary Cassatts paintings.

Students will work with partners to research families in other cultures in the computer lab or with provided social studies books. 7. Students will create an artwork using multiple medias of crayons, markers, and paint in which they will portray a family different than their own. 8. Students will present their finished artwork to the class. They will explain what the family they have portrayed and how that family is different than their own. Day 4: 9. Students will have a discussion about how families work together to meet each others needs. 10. Closure Closure (Reflecting Anticipatory Set): Students will create a story about families. They can choose to write about how their understanding of families has changed (what they thought before and now), a fictional story about a family different than their own, or a non-fiction story about families in different cultures.

Anticipatory Set (Gaining Attention): Student will draw a picture of their family. Students will get in small groups of three five and take turns explaining their family using the drawing. After each student has had a turn to describe their family the students will discuss what they have found. Students will present their findings to the rest of the class and continue the discussion of the differences and similarities of their families. Students will explore their new knowledge to create a story about families. How will this lesson allow for/encourage students to solve problems in divergent ways? Students will be comparing their families to the families of the classmates. They will be able to see how all families are different, some may be small and some may be big, etc. Students will be researching how families have changed throughout history and they will be able to see how their family is different than families from the past. Students will research families in different cultures and be able to compare those families to their own. They will be able to see the differences and similarities. Students will discuss and work together to figure out how families work together to meet each others needs.

Art Integration Lesson Plan Template 3 How will you engage students in routinely reflecting on their learning? The students will be doing work and reflecting with the class. They will be discussing the topics and working together to increase their knowledge and understanding of the topic. The students will be presenting their information and finding to the class and be able to see how their classmates are thinking and reflecting on the topic. How will you adapt the various aspects of the lesson to differently-abled students? ELL Students Allow the student to do their research in the language they are most comfortable with, but they must translate their findings to English. Give the students a translation dictionary to assist them. Provide the students with translation software to assist them. Mild Learning Disabilities Break the lesson down into smaller chunks of information, focus on smaller parts of the lesson each day. Supply the students with books in their reading level to assist them with the researching. Partner the student with a student near their level and allow them to help each other throughout the lesson. Gifted Students Allow the students to research the topic more and present their finding to the class. Supply the student with reading material in their reading level for extra research on the topic. Partner the student with other students near their level and allow them to work together to find more research on the topic that they can present to the class. What opportunities/activities will students be given to revise and improve their understandings and their work? Each time the students present they will be explaining their knowledge and gaining knowledge by listening to their classmates. The students can do more research if they need help understanding the topic. The students can assist each other when working in their small groups and partners. What opportunities/activities will you provide for students to share their learning in this lesson? The students will have share times, create art work and posters to show their understanding and learning, and write about their understanding of the topic.
