What are the negative effects that Facebook can have on an individual? Facebook have become a part of the lives around you and now parents and professors are joining. Facebook was founded by Mark Zuckerberg in 2004 while he was an undergraduate computer science student at Harvard University. Facebook is one of the worlds largest social networks with more than 900 million users. What I see happening is Facebook is now hindering communication verbally with the word count and its lack of a face to face communication. Due to this things, such as grammar is being thrown out. Its not a lack of education or anything its just that the word count of only 420 characters make it hard to fit everything you are trying to say sometime so now people have gotten lazy and are short texting the words or using ebonies which if you are in any kind of school it really hurt you in the long term when writing papers or doing any type of writing. Facebook is one of the leading social sites used to target teenagers and cyber bullying. Facebook also cause depression and narcissistic and harm overall self-esteem. posting pictures of themselves and editing their pictures to gain approved of their peers. My first source was an article Facebook can have negative mental effects, claims psychologist by Sharon Gaudin. I feel this source was perfect because it was as study backed up by The American Psychological Association and it gives more enlightenment on how Facebook is effecting people besides the fact that its making them more lazy .The article basically states that Facebook can be linked to some psychological disorders such as narcissism and antisocial behaviors, and aggressive tendencies with young adults says Dr. Larry Rosen a professor of psychology at California State University. Rosen pointed out in the article how teens are spending most of their time on their devices on social networks instead of over the phone or face to face communication.

What Rosen seems to be saying is that overdoing social networks could bring out negative emotional behaviors and spending all your time behind a computer screen won't help your communication skills? The article is not saying that Facebook or any social site causes psychological disorders its just if you already have the tendencies then overdoing Facebook or any site for that matter will just make it worse but also help you when your display photos and statues. My next source is Facebook Causes Depression by Rebecca Savastio. I like this article because it supports my question and shows what the simple thing that Facebook causes people to induere. Savastio article states yet a new study has emerged that says facebook causes depression and the more someone uses it the more depressed they became. The study comes from the University of Michigan where they observed 82 Facebook users. They found out that the more times users spend on Facebook the more people feelings of well-being decrease and depression is increased. Ethan Kross the lead researcher of the project says that Facebook also causes the fear of missing out which is marked by the feeling of inadequacy someone experiences when they see the post of their social circle on vacations or beautiful children. Jealousy and resentment pervades when looking at the positive things thats going on in others lives. The results of the study showed that Facebook usage had a significant, negative relationship with self-esteem. What Kross is trying to say is that maybe it is time to close Facebook and find something more productive to do with your life. I feel it is also saying that the more you use Facebook the more your mood drops. The negative effects of Facebook is used on happiness become more pronounced the more people interact other people within that time. i feel that the quality of facebook is more important than the quantity because people with less friends are more

happier than people with hundreds of friends. Its depressing for people to post stuff not thinking and knowing that they can't take it back because all of the world or their friends have seen it. Facebook envy leads to depression all because people are jealous of the next. Another source was a blog called Facebook causes more problems than good by Telegraph reporter which is one of the I used it because it was a news story. I decided to use this as a source because it was an example of the danger and harm Facebook can create. I feel this source was just right because the blog was just another way to show how Facebook is doing more bad than good. Its about how a jealous lover set his lover up with a secret admirers fake page which almost cost his lover her life. A man named Andrew posted a message from his fake page to his lovers, and when she responded, he punched her in the face in a drunken rage, if it had not been for a Good Samaritan calling the police there is no telling what would have happened to the lover. This is just a good example to show you how Facebook creates problems with fake pages and people using them to spy on other are putting lives in danger. Facebook causes people to get beat due to stereotypes and ignorance. It shows how the website causes a huge amount of hassle in society. What Facebook is doing is accelerating the inevitable conflict and bickering amongst a technologically equipped peasantry who knows how to keep each other down. This source is an article, fired over Facebook by Catharine Smith. I chose this source because the stories show how the little this people do or put on Facebook can affect your everyday lives so much. which is about how Facebook is a little too open with posting pictures, videos, and opinions. The social networking site that gives employers and employees the boot. This article tells the stories of how Facebook got thirteen people fired. For example Facebook got a cheerleader from a football team fired for posting pictures

RidleyTakiyah P1

that made her and the team look bad. This article is just another example to show you that Facebook has got out of hand with what people post. Facebook is now being use by professors and employers. It is a useful tool to see if a person is the right person for the position such as a scholarship or a job. Source teachers blame social networking for poor grades by Andy Bloxham. I felt this source was good because it was a educational news and it was a perspective from a different point a view. This article says thats due to children spending most of their time online making it harder to concentrate in the classroom because they already have short attention spans and is permanently distracted as it is. Many teachers are unhappy with the increasing use of text speak and chat text in place of English grammar. Reports shows that the children with the poorest scores are the ones on social site all the time. Children are becoming more and more obsessed with websites like Facebook. Homework is poor also because kids are rushing through it just so they can get on their Facebook and other social site faster. What the article is stating is that adults with kids need to support their kids all the way around with learning and development emotional and social. which requires a range of relevant , meaningful activities and lots of opportunities to interact with others at home and school. Cell phones and computers are one of the main reason that children can't spell. That social networkings have become such an everyday thing in life for adults and children that it a must in their lives now which result in feeling excluded or even socially ostracized. Time invested in social media can be either delayed or distorted social and emotional development. children don't speed as much time as they should on their homework and parents should start limiting the time spent on social networks because it is

RidleyTakiyah P1

getting too common to find sleep deprived children because they been up all night chat on social sites. Teachers are seeing negative results in lack of engagement in learning in school. In a worse case children can become quite isolated and withdrawn in the school situation and anywhere else that does not futures a computer. Can Facebook really cause negative effects on individual? With people losing their job, kids having bad grade, and relationships ending in violence. I can only conclude that it give the social site a bad look because Facebook can't really cause problems can it is it the people behind the computer because Facebook is just a network. Facebook mission is just to make the world a more open and connected place. Refernce
