SCORE CRITERIA

Meeting Specif icatio ns: Photo shop and Mixed Media

Concept

Outstanding: A 50 48 points Photoshop: Correct document size & resolution (11x17 @ 300dpi) Student uses at least two various modes on layers and has a minimum of four overlapping layers. Mixed Media (watercolor &/or pen): Student creates & imports a mixed media vignette, hand lettering, & imports mixed media images. The student understands what juxtapositioning is & applies it in finished piece. The student understands what contrast is, evidenced by the left & right sides of the finished piece & what symbols can signify by using symbolism intentionally. The student is also able to evaluate talk about their own & their classmates artwork.

Advanced: A to A47 - 45 points The student meets all of the specifications but may need occassional prompts in order to fulfill mixed media and photoshop requirements.

Proficient: B+ to B to B 44 40 points The student meets all of the specifications, but may need frequent prompts in order to fulfill mixed media and photoshop requirements.

Basic: C+ to C to C39 - 35 points The student misses one or more of the specifications and needs occasional/frequent prompts in order to fulfill mixed media and photoshop requirements.

Needs Help: D+ to D to D34 - 30 points The student misses a number of the specifications and needs frequent prompts in order to fulfill mixed media and photoshop requirements.

Unacceptable: F 29 points or less The student misses more than half of the specifications and needs frequent prompts in order to fulfill mixed media and photoshop requirements.

Composition and Design

Color scheme is intentionally selected to create unity. The left and right sides are balanced in relation to each other. The vignette emphasizes content. There are a variety of visual elements. The juxtapositioning of visual elements, text, and symbols creates a dialogue.

The student shows a very good understanding of the various concepts presented in class as evidenced by group discussions & individual work. The finished artwork communicates an original message that relates to the lesson/unit concepts discussed. The completed artwork displays a strong use of symbolic imagery, juxtapositioning, unity, and mixed media. The composition is balanced and uses intentional emphasis to highlight elements within it to the concepts discussed in class.

The student displays a solid understanding of the various concepts presented during class. The finished artwork communicates a message that relates to the lesson/unit concepts discussed.

The completed artwork displays a solid use of symbolic imagery, juxtapositioning, unity, and mixed media. The composition is balanced and uses emphasis to highlight elements within it to the concepts discussed in class.

The student understands various concepts presented during class, some more clearly than others and may need various prompts. The finished artwork communicates a rudimentary message and may not relate well to the lesson/unit concepts discussed. The completed artwork displays a basic use of symbolic imagery, juxtapositioning, unity, & mixed media. The composition may require more balance & may use emphasis perhaps not intentionally! to highlight elements within it to the concepts discussed in class. The finished artwork shows adequate craftsmanship and technical skills # not as good as it could have been, a bit careless/sloppy.

The student grasps the various concepts presenting during class, however their understanding is superficial and/or rudimentary. The finished artwork may not communicate a message that relates to any of the lesson/unit concepts discussed.

The student does not grasp many/all of the concepts presented in class and is unable to make conceptual connections within group discussion or individual work. The finished artwork does not communicate a thoughtful message and does not relate to the lesson/unit concepts discussed.

The completed artwork displays a below average use of symbolic imagery, juxtapositioning, unity, & mixed media. The composition may be unbalanced & the symbols may be trite &/or there may be a lack of emphasis in the composition as well as a lack of cohesion with the concepts discussed in class. The finished artwork shows below average craftsmanship, and technical skills. There is a lack of pride in what the student considers finished work.

The completed artwork uses no symbols or trite/offensive ones and displays a lack of intentionality in its composition. The artwork may not contain any areas of emphasis and does not relate to the concepts discussed in classs.

Technical Skill and Craftsmanship

There are no jagged selections or pixilization. The luminosity of the image is preserved throughout the layers, the final image is not muddy. The incorporation & importing of mixed media is successful. The images used show a level
