WRC Visit Reflection I chose to visit the WRC for assistance with the ACIP Individual Report. The only document I brought with me was the draft of the report that I had currently developed. The context of this paper was academic, and with it being the first real draft I had produced, I just wanted to make sure that my citations were correct, considering I had not properly done an MLA document before. I also wanted help with my opening for the paper. With that being said, Jenn, the staff member I met with, assisted me in developing my idea of pointing out that most members of the computer science discourse community might not necessarily see themselves as members. This was a key principal relevant to my entire report. In addition to helping me with making my introductory statement clear, she also made it evident to me that my initial lack of quotations around nearly direct quotes could count as a form of plagiarism. Where I initially described how John Swales defined a discourse community, I had no quotations in place because I thought that I had paraphrased it by the way I organized the information and formatted it. However, since the material primarily consisted of his exact words, I was led to quote it and refer to him through in-text citations. Without this, I think I would have gotten docked a substantial amount of points at the bare minimum. She pointed out the Purdue website, which didnt do much for me, as I had been using that the entire time, so most of my citations were formatted properly. I had some issues with website titles in the citations, but those were worked out. I was somewhat inattentive for segments of the session. That fault lies with me, but it is something I can realize I ought to work on in the future. I chose to revise what counted toward my grade, because that was what was pointed out to me, particularly areas where my final document has quotations in place. The probability of those quotations not having been in my initial draft is high. I came into the WRC under the assumption that I would be met with some shrewd elderly

lady that would slap me on the wrist for each small mistake, then praise the end document that she almost singlehandedly manufactured during the meeting. However, this idea was proven to be wrong almost instantly. The room where you clock in was welcoming, though the people attending other sessions seem how I perceive the stereotypical people from Charlotte. In all, I enjoyed the WRC visit, though I hated that the spot I was scheduled for was early in the morning. I found meeting Jenn to be a nice experience, and the process of signing up for the visit all the way through finishing the session was smooth. I will admit, however, that I went in not knowing exactly what to look for or what to say. I couldnt think on my feet too well while I was there, as a result of me being somewhat inattentive, as stated earlier, however, we both worked together to figure out what needed to be done for my end product.
