whats in whats out Knowing history of design Knowing how to communicate/disseminate information across all departments Knowing the balance/direction between good design and bad, and how it also fits in with the whole package (unity; culture) Knowing market strategies Knowing client/company direction/goal/purpose/objectives Knowing audience/receiving end of design Keeping up-to-date with technologies, graphical standards, features of different devices, and their pros and limitations (aspect ratio, ppi, when to use vectors, new tech, etc.) Knowing pricing in the creation of your product/design how much it costs to bring something to fruition Knowing how to market your designs/products to others using persuasive language, and good interpersonal skills

What Every Person Who Works with a Designer Needs to Know (10 Things) 1) How to express yourself with more detail and clarity, other than saying I dont know it I dont know why, but I dont 2) Know the basics of design and art composition 3) Know when to step back and let designer do their job and make valid design decisions (not overwhelm with ideas or mandates) 4) Realistic understanding of turnaround time and creation time 5) Be prepared for many iterations of design before final product (may take longer than expected) treat it as a process to make something strong 6) Dont be afraid bring to bring up concerns to designers; dont be intimidated 7) Can ask designers to explain in laymans terms when confused 8) Need to respect designers time/capabilities and not throw one large additions or changes at the end of project timeline may result in shoddy product 9) Know that some methods/layouts, etc. in design are proven to work better than others 10) Know to follow identity guidelines with regards to logos, spacing, colors used, etc.
