Welcome Letter to Parents Dear Parents, My name is Tr. Asnath, and your child will be in my class for this school year. Welcome to the 2013-2014 school year. I am delighted to have your child in my classroom and looking forward to share the school year together with him/her. As a teacher, my commitment will be to encourage, challenge, motivate and educate your child and also make learning fun. Your son/daughter should be in school no later than 7:30, and he/she have to wear the school uniform the proper way. There will be homework assignments almost daily, therefore, I would like for you to check with your son/daughter occasionally to make sure that his/her work is being done. All homework has to be signed by parent. I am available to help students individually after school. In addition, I will be assigning projects in various subjects throughout the school year. Projects are to be completed at home. I encourage you to contact me if you have any questions or concerns at any time from 2:00 p.m. -7:00 p.m. you can send me a note or email at aeb_@live.com or call 526-85-03. Please feel free to participate when the class has presentations, field trips, etc. I am looking forward to work with you and your child.

Sincerely, Tr. Asnath

Welcome Sign For my Welcome poster, I have decided to use balloons. I specifically chose star balloons because my students will be my stars, also when they see their names on a star they will feel good and will be motivated. There are two main colors; pink and blue, the reason for pink is that most girls love pink and in the classroom you often hear them say blue is for boys. I included my name on a star too because I want my students to know that we are one big family.

Name Tags Name tags are useful for identifying others, especially if individuals are not familiar with each other. Seeing persons names written will help to capture the name and face. Below, Ive placed some examples of name tags which will be done with my students. They will get the choice to either decorate their own or use one that is already made by me. The writings will be big, which will be recognized from far.

Ice Breakers Getting to know you Have a basket of candy, pass it around the class and tell students take as much as they want. Explain to them that they will need this for an activity. After everyone has had their candy, explain how the game works. For every candy the students took, they must tell the class one thing about themselves. It can be their favorite color, favorite animal and so on. This activity helps students to learn new things about each other.

Whole Class Activity Have a large piece of cardboard to create a jigsaw puzzle that has as many pieces as students, plus one piece for myself. Cut out the cardboard into puzzle shapes and numbers each piece on the back, and share them out to students. They have to decorate their piece with their names, words, and pictures using colors, markers, paints etc. This puzzle will represent the class, which means that we are all different but we share/do everything as a group. And then reassemble the puzzle and stick it on a bulletin board to symbolize the importance of each individual's involvement to the class as a whole.

Emergency Folder

Dear Substitute Teacher, I'm glad you're here. You are about to work with great students. Most of them will do almost anything you ask. Read through the information in this "Sub Folder", which will provide you with more information. If you need help don't be shy to ask the students, neighboring teachers, and the principal, they will be glad to help you in whatever way they can. As to academics, if you don't get through everything, don't worry about it. We can most likely make it up later. On the other hand, if you get through with things too soon, feel free to play an educational game or do something from your own except introducing a new lesson. In addition, if there is anything you are passionate about teaching or sharing with the students, feel free to do so, I only ask that you check with me first. Please keep an eye on Maria David, Kimani Jabez and Raeul Moses. They are the talkers of this group. I hope everything goes well and that you will have an enjoyable time with the kids!

Kinds Regards, Tr. Asnath

Target Behavior: Oral Linguistic Goals: Students will learn about poems Students will write poems 1: The student listens attentively when others are speaking. 3: Listens and follows simple oral directions and instructions.

Objectives: Students will appreciate poetry Students will be able to write diamante poems on their own Students will know at least three types of poetry, which are diamante, haiku, and acrostic.

Prerequisites: Students should be able to; glue and follow directions Materials and Resources needed: Construction paper, line paper, pens, and glue Instructional Consideration: The construction paper will be cut into a diamond because diamante has a shape like diamond.

Procedure
Anticipatory Set: Who likes poems? Does anyone of you know what a diamante is? Well today, you will learn about diamante which is a type of poem. Teacher is going to explain what it is, and reads an example for you. Diamante Day and Night Day Sunny, cloudy Shinning, heating, swimming Morning, midday, dinner, bedtime, Praying, resting, sleeping Scary, dark Night Model: While reading/showing examples of diamante, the poem will be written on the board so that everyone can see it. Then teacher gives the direction of writing a diamante poem. Ex: The title has to be two opposite words, Diamantes are seven lines long. The first and last lines have just one word which is the title for example good and bad thats a title, good has to be in the middle on the very first line, and bad has to be in the middle of the seventh line. The second line has two adjectives describing the first word. The third line has three verbs ending in ing describing the first line. The fourth line has four words, the first two describe the first line and the last two words describe the last word of the poem. The fifth line has three verbs ending with ing describing the last line and the sixth line has two nouns describing the last line. Teacher will also write on the board the format Line 1: noun, line 2: two adjectives, line 3: three action verbs

that end in "-ing", line 4: four nouns, line 5: three action verbs that end in "-ing" line 6: two adjectives, line 7: noun. When everyone has grasped the concept, then teacher asks students to take out their pens. They will receive line paper and construction paper that already shape like a diamond. Their task is to write a diamante poem on the line paper. Independent practice: The students will have 10 minutes to write their diamante poem. When they are finished, they will be instructed to glue their poem on the construction paper. And then share their poem with the class. Check for understanding: Asks the students; what do we have to keep in mind when writing a diamante? What is the shape of a diamante? Guided practice: The whole activity will be done with guidance. Teacher will help students if they are struggling, because writing diamante can be difficult for some students especially if the child is not fully aware of poetry. Closure: After completing the activity, asks random students for a brief recap on what they learnt about diamante.
