"verview of Sco#e and Se$uence %n first grade& children listen to and read folk tales and true stories from merica and from around the world' They learn about major historical events& figures& and symbols related to the (nited States of merica and its national holidays and why they are im#ortant to mericans' The grade ) curriculum continues to strengthen children*s identity as merican citi+ens'
%n this curriculum framework& the four disci#lines of history& geogra#hy& economics& and civics and government are integrated in the learning standards& they are not #resented in four se#arate strands' coding system has been used throughout to indicate disci#linary content stressed in a standard: (H) history, (G) geography, (E) economics, and (C) civics and government. 1
