What do we want students to know and be able to do by the end of this lesson? (What is the objective?) Media Objective: Students will utilize Culture Grams online DB and will read for information and takes notes by summarizing. SS Objective: Students will identify seen characteristics of culture for an African country. How will we activate student learning (What is the warmup/activator?) Students will be shown how to access Culture Grams and to navigate the topic areas. Students will answer the question: What are some characteristics of culture that can be seen?

What will we do for students who already know the material? Students who not have the background knowledge? (How are we using previous lesson data to differentiate your lesson?) Before students come to MC, they will discuss seen/unseen characteristics of culture in their SS classes We will use the warm-up to determine who understands/does not understand the concept. We will address individuals on an as needed basis. Students will be using CultureGrams for the first time. As students begin researching, teachers and media specialist and LMS intern will monitor them and assist as needed.

How will we know if they get it? (What will be the method of checking for student understanding, throughout the lesson?)

Note-taking sheet will be filled in by students. Teacher and media specialist will check in with each student as they are working to make sure they understand what they are doing and offer assistance as needed.

When do you plan to formally assess students knowledge as a formative or summative assessment? o Formative assessment note taking sheet will be graded as a formative assessment o Postcard students create will be a summative grade How will we close the learning for the students? (What is What are the next steps for students who did not get it? the closure or summarizer?) (What are the plans for re-teaching?)

Re-teaching will happen within the class period on an as needed basis. As teacher and media specialist and intern walk around they will determine if students need assistance/re-teaching/clarification, etc
