Education is a privilege given to each child and they exercise this privilege by going to school each day.

The primary purpose of school is to provide opportunities for children to prosper and learn both socially and academically, since they are both equally important. During the school day, children are exposed to vast amounts of knowledge that help them develop the practical skills that they need to get through life. The four core subjects of language arts, math, science and social studies, contain aspects that help students thrive in life. Each day people need to be able to read, tell time, count money, write etc. These skills and information are acquired by attending school. Students foster creativity throughout the school year through projects, artwork, writing and music. This creativity helps them express themselves and get a better sense of who they are. While home school provides this same knowledge, it does not provide the social aspect that is necessary for all children. By attending school, children discover their true selves; they learn morals, values and develop their own character. Group projects and teachers providing opportunities for students to share and become a class community, helps students develop people skills and learn to work as a team. For the rest of a childs life, they need to learn how to work with others and discover what it means to be a good person or citizen. These skills are great assets when finding jobs and building relationships, which are necessary parts of life. Learning is a process of understanding a specific concept or skill and being able to apply or demonstrate it. Students demonstrate learning through answering questions, completing tests, creative projects and more. The teacher should be able to assess whether learning took place by seeing if the student applies or demonstrates the knowledge and skills that were taught in different settings. It is rare to find two children who are exactly alike; this same concept applies to the way children learn. Children all learn differently: some may learn through listening, others visually, and some kinesthetically. Teachers need to take into account the way all students in their class learn, and be ready to provide accommodations or modifications to lessons when necessary. Teachers must be aware and ready to react to the way every student in their class learns. Differentiated instruction should be happening in the classroom everyday, in every lesson. Administration and teachers must work together to ensure every child receives the services that they need to learn. Children learn best when they are stimulated. Having hands on or other types of engaging lessons ensures students will be interested and motivated to learn.

As a teacher, I want develop my students passions for learning. Interacting with children has always come natural to me. As a student myself, I have always loved school and had a desire to learn more. Teaching is the only career I could ever imagine having. Ive always had a desire to help and to reach people; teaching will provide me with the tools and opportunities to do just that. With teaching comes a power like no other. As teachers, we are shaping the future. What students learn in the classroom, they are applying to their future careers, even as young as Kindergarten. I hope my students are eager to come into my classroom and learn each day. I want to teach with an open mind, positive attitude, patience, and lots of knowledge. My personal goal is to be both well liked, and respected by my students, as it is hard to have one without the other. The most important thing to exist in a classroom is a healthy relationship between teacher and student. I hope to be there as an advocate and as a support system to all my students. Learning takes risks, and students will not be willing to take these risks if they are uncomfortable or do not trust the teacher. Through prestige classroom management skills, I will ensure my class has order and prevent punishment. I would like to keep my lessons student-centered with some lecture, but also demonstration, class discussions, and cooperative groups. For some subjects, I will utilize guided discovery or project-based learning and I will be sure to appropriately balance out and use these instructional strategies. Students ability, grade level, and subject matter all dictate which strategy is appropriate and should be used. An effective teacher follows a quality curriculum that should be developed by the government with modifications at the state and town levels. The foundations of education are timeless and need to remain in the curriculum, but a quality curriculum needs to keep up with the times. The district one teaches in, should reflect their personal views as well. I hope to teach in a district that recognizes the importance of inclusion, coteaching and collaborations for both students and teachers. A district that has access to technology holds the power to expand lessons to reach the 21st Century Learner. Districts that use Responsive Classrooms seem to have effective teachers, well-behaved students who have high achievements, and a welcoming school environment. Education is the key to success. Students cultivate knowledge and gain social skills in school that help them move forward and succeed in life. A motivating teacher and quality curriculum allow students to reach their full potential. I hope to motivate and help every student that walks through my door.
