Sharing the Planet An inquiry into the relationship between communities, environment and natural resources and how we can share these responsibly with each other and other living things.

Social Studies: students consider problems associated with how we live and how that affects others. Science: students will discover the necessary elements of animal habitats and how they are affected by change.

Unit Focus
Pre-K and K students will
explore how art and architecture can strive to create a better world. We will look at artists who are inspired by rural environments and use paint and oil pastels to build our own amazing homes. We will look at different cityscapes in art history and explore the language of art. Lastly, we will explore the life and work of Buckminster Fuller and the geodesic dome with tetrahedron sculptures. (summative assessment).

Grade 3 students will use rhythm


and movement to create representations of interdependence or cooperation found within the community in a collaborative mural made with recycled materials (summative assessment).

Grade 4 students will explore the


concepts of contrast, bilateral and radial symmetry and sculptural form through the works of Frank Stella and Dale Chihuly (summative assessment).
