Complete the two-step direction. 2. Describe a physical attribute of the animal. Assessment of Student Learning Identify Evidence: (What will you collect or record as data to demonstrate students have met your objective(s) and skill?) Mixed media work sample to show the ability to complete two-step directions and to use a variety of media. Anecdotal notes to show the description of the physical attribute of the animal. Learning Experience Academic Language: Cow, pig, chicken, horse, sheep, donkey, goat Procedural steps: 1. Two small group tables will be filled with construction paper and a variety of resources for the mixed media project. Resources may include: paper, safety scissors, glue, markers, crayons, pipe cleaners, popsicle sticks, pom-poms, buttons, tissue paper, etc. The tables will also include authentic pictures of the farm animals we are studying. 2. After spending time with the live farm animals at the farm, the teacher will split the class into two groups and have them sit at the small group worktables in the classroom. 3. The teacher will ask the students to 1) select their favorite farm animal out of the pictures in front of them, and 2) produce their selected favorite farm animal through mixed media using the materials given. 4. The teachers will sit at the worktables and monitor and record evidence of student learning through the whole class data sheet. 5. The teachers will facilitate discussion with individual students about what each student made, and take anecdotal notes on what physical attributes the student is able to describe the animal with. 6. The teachers will collect the mixed media work sample as assessment of student learning once the student is finished describing the physical characteristics of the

One Assessed Developmental Skill: Physical: fine motor Language: listening Cognitive: Science Safety Considerations: Consider safety in the materials for the mixed media project: safety scissors and small items that students may be able to choke on.

Authentic Materials: (Describe authentic real life, hands-on materials.) Before the mixed media project, students will have the opportunity to interact with the live farm animals at the farm. The students care for these animals once a week with the farmer, and they spend time outside on the farm every day with these animals if the weather permits them to go outside. The pictures of the farm animals to choose from for their mixed media project will be authentic pictures of the animals that live at the farm.

Adult Roles: There will be two teachers at each worktable. The teachers will be making check marks on the whole class data sheet on who is following the two-step directions and who is using a variety of media to create their selected animal. The teachers will also talk to each student individually about what the student made, and take an anecdotal note for each student about the physical attributes that the student describes the animal with. They will note whether or not the student could describe physical attributes.

Reflection: (What have you learned about your students? How will this inform future instruction?) All students were able to complete two-step directions given. This will inform future instruction, as I will be able to start adding a third direction to the list of tasks to be performed in the classroom. This lesson taught me more about the students ability to focus on a given task because each student spent a considerable amount of time working on their mixed media project. I observed that the mixed media project allowed the students to have freedom of choice, which is often not given in art projects. Most students were also able to describe a physical attribute about their favorite farm animal that they created. One thing to learn from is how to appropriately respond when students say I dont know how to make a cow or whatever animal they choose. Many students said that as they were beginning their projects. I learned to be encouraging and allow students to depict their favorite animal in any way they chose, as long as they were able to share a characteristic of the farm animal.
