Dermis

The connective tissue that supports the epidermis and binds it to the subcutaneous tissue (hypodermis) Thickness of the dermis varies to the regions of the body and reaches to its maximum of 4mm on the back. Surface is very irregular and has many projections that interdigitate with projections of the epidermis Basal Lamina is always found between the Stratum germinativum and the papillary layer of the dermis and follows the contour of the interdigitations between these layers.

The dermis consist of two layers with rather indistinct bounderies:


The outermost papillary layer Deeper reticular layer
