Program: __Using AAC device to ask a question___ Objective: Within five seconds of a peer sitting down next to him in the special education room during morning routine and guided reading, S will press the button on his AAC device to ask the peer, How are you today? twice a day for four consecutive days. Instructional Procedures Setting, Grouping, *Morning routine in the special education classroom. S is Positioning seated in a chair at the calendar, and waiting for his peers to arrive. His peers will sit with him at the calendar when they arrive. *Guided reading group in the special education classroom. S is seated in a chair at the rainbow table waiting for peers to arrive. His peers will sit next to him. Equipment/Materials AAC device ready with the question button How are you today?. Instruction and Instruction: Natural Cue as the SD. SD=Discriminative Stimulus. Prompt When S sees a peer sit down next to him, he will push the question button on his AAC device to ask the peer, How are you today?. Prompt: The teacher will use a verbal prompt to remind S that a peer has arrived and to use his AAC device. If needed, the teacher will use a gestural prompt to point to the question button on the device. If necessary, the teacher will use gentle hand-over-hand assistance, to help S push the question button on his AAC device to ask his peer the question. Correct Response S asks his peer How are you today? by pushing the question button on his ACC device within five seconds of the peer sitting down next to him. Time Delay and Pause three seconds after the natural cue. Correction If incorrect response, or no response within three seconds, the teacher will verbally prompt S to let him know a peer has arrived and to communicate using his AAC device. If incorrect response or no response within the subsequent three seconds, the teacher will point to the question button on the device. If incorrect response or no response after the subsequent three seconds, the teacher will assist S by guiding his hand to the question button and help him push the button.

*Natural reinforcement of a peer answering his question. *After the peer answers Ss question, the teacher will say, S, you asked a question, great job!, and give him high-five. Two opportunities daily. Tuesdays and Wednesdays each week. Record type of performance for each opportunity provided: I = independent, N = natural cue, V = verbal prompt, G = gesture, H/H = hand-over-hand assistance. *Success of plan: S will push the question button on his AAC device to ask the question, How are you today? two times per day, given the natural cue only for four consecutive days. *Failure of plan: Hand-over-hand assistance is needed two times each day for four consecutive days.

Program: __Using question card to ask a question___ Objective: Within five seconds of a peer sitting down next to him in the general education room during attendance and after specials, S will place the question card How are you today? on the peers desk twice a day for four consecutive days. Instructional Procedures Setting, Grouping, Daily instruction received in the general education room to Positioning begin the day (attendance) and after specials. S is seated in his desk; his peers sit on both sides of him in their desks. Equipment/Materials Picture prompts, and question card How are you today?. Instruction and Instruction: Natural cue as the SD. SD=Discriminative Stimulus. Prompt When a peer sits down in his or her desk next to S, S will place the question card on the peers desk to ask the peer How are you today?. Prompt: The teacher will use a verbal prompt to tell S that a peer sat down next to him and that it is time to place the question card on the peers desk. If needed, the teacher will use picture prompts of a boy speaking to another peer and the question written in a talking bubble to prompt S to place the question card on the peers desk. If necessary, the teacher will use hand-over-hand assistance to help S move the question card to the peers desk. Correct Response S places the card with the question How are you today? on a peers desk within five seconds of the peer sitting down next to him. Time Delay and Pause three seconds after the natural cue. Correction If incorrect response or no response within three seconds, the teacher will use a verbal prompt to tell S a peer has arrived and that it is time to ask the question. If incorrect response or no response within the subsequent three seconds, the teacher will show S the picture prompt of the boy speaking to another peer with the question written in the talking bubble. If incorrect response, or no response within the subsequent three seconds, the teacher will use hand-over-hand assistance to help S move the question card to the peers desk. Reinforcement *Natural reinforcement of peer answering his question. *After peer answers, teacher will say to S, Very nice job asking _____(the name of the peer) how they were today., and give S a high-five. Frequency to Teach Two opportunities daily.
