Reflection Questions Directions: Answer the following questions about your job shadowing experience using complete sentences. Be thorough in your answers as some of your answers may be incorporated in your senior portfolio presentation speech and or final reflection paper. 1. Was the job shadow you completed the same career field you identified in your career PowerPoint? If you completed the experience in another field, explain why there was a need to change career fields. (i.e., I was not able to set up a job shadow experience in my intended career field OR After taking a closer look at the field, I found that I was more interested in). The job shadow I completed was not the same career path as described in my PowerPoint because I was not able to set up a job shadow experience in my intended career field. Instead it was done at the Xavier University of Louisiana Financial Aid Office. As a result of your job shadow experience, are you still planning to pursue the same career or has the experience led you in a new direction? Explain. As a result of this experience I was able to learn the basic steps of the Financial Aid process for undergraduate students that allow me to not see myself pursuing a career in this field. I say this because this type of field work does not interest me. I find it very boring to sit behind a desk all day and helping people out. I would rather be on my feet and constantly doing handy work.

3. During your job shadow, what skills did you observe that are needed to be proficient at this career? In order to be proficient at this job one must know the financial aid process, computer knowledge, and most importantly work well with people. 4. What activities and or duties did you like/dislike about the experience? The activities I liked doing was the ability to listen to music while doing mail work but what I dislike was just sitting there when no customers came in the office.

5. Do you see yourself doing this job for the duration of your working career? (i.e., 15 to 20 years in the same field) No, I do not see myself doing this job for the duration of my working career. 6. Aside from academic preparation in school, what are some other things that you can do in order to prepare for your intended career field? To prepare for my intended career field I can constantly visit car shops and learn some information from the employees. 7. Is there any important tips and or advice you were given by your mentor concerning your career field? One thing I learned from this job shadow is that college is expensive and financial aid does not cover everything. With this in mind now I will start to save my money and look for scholarships that I am eligible for. 8. Considering everything you have learned, what is most invaluable lesson you have learned from your job shadowing experience, and how will this help you to move forward in your intended career field? The most invaluable lesson I have learned from this job shadowing experience is that I will never settle for a boring job and this will help me to move forward to something I enjoy doing and that is working with cars.
