0 Lesson Plan Details : Review Day 14 Morgan Murphy 4 grade 40 minutes Concepts: All 10 NCSS Themes Skills: Recalling previously taught concepts 1.1 Integration of Learning Outcomes/Objectives Students will apply what theyve learned in each of the lessons throughout the unit during a game of jeopardy and in a closing quiz by answering questions about the Northeast region. 1.2 Standards PA Civics, History, Economics, Geography & NCSS Themes I - X with subthemes 7.1.4.B: Describe and locate places and regions as defined by physical and human features. 5.1.4.D: Identify key ideas about government found in significant documents: Declaration of Independence United States Constitution Bill of Rights , Pennsylvania Constitution 6.4.4.B: Explain why nations trade. 1.3 Anticipatory Set The students will be asked out of all the states they learned about in the Northeast, which they would like to travel to the most. They will share with a partner three reasons why they would travel to this state. They will be split into three teams and each team will come up with one question they could ask the other groups to answer about the Northeast. They will be told that theyre going to be playing jeopardy to review what theyve learned during the unit. The questions that they generate will be bonus questions at the end of the game. 1.4 Procedures The class will be split into three groups (as said above). There will be a jeopardy board displayed on the smartboard. There will be 25 questions worth 10, 20, 30, 40, and 50 points. Each group will take turns picking a category and a question to answer as a group. If they get the question right, their team receives that amount of points. If they get the question wrong, the question is given to the next team and that team is given one minute to answer the question correctly. (Students will apply what theyve learned in each of the lessons throughout the unit during a game of jeopardy and in a closing quiz by answering questions about states in the Northeast region. (Students will apply what theyve learned in each of the lessons throughout the unit during a game of jeopardy and in a closing quiz by answering questions about the Northeast region). At the end of the game, the points are added up and then each team has the opportunity to answer the questions that were generated by each team.
th

These bonus questions are worth double or nothing. If the students decide to answer the question, they will receive double their total points or lose all of their points. If they do not choose to answer the question, their points remain the same. (Students will apply what theyve learned in each of the lessons throughout the unit during a game of jeopardy and in a closing quiz by answering questions about the Northeast region). 1.5 Differentiation English Language Learners- For an ELL, I would place them with a student who they are comfortable with and would be willing to help them. Allowing them to draw pictures to depict what they learned is also a good way to assess if they understood the material. Visual Impairment- For a student with a visual impairment, pair them with a student who can read the material aloud for them. Have the students orally explain what they learned instead of drawing or writing. 1.6 Closure After jeopardy, the students will go to the following website for one last review on the Northeast: http://www.softschools.com/quizzes/social_studies/usa_northeast_region/quiz870.html This is a short 10 question quiz that will help the students review general information on the Northeast. They will also have an exit slip where they will write one interesting fact they learned about the Northeast throughout the unit. 1.7 Formative/Summative Assessment of Students (P-12) The students will be assessed based on their participation in jeopardy. They will be observed on how they communicate with their group and how much they contribute to coming up with the answer. (Students will apply what theyve learned in each of the lessons throughout the unit during a game of jeopardy by answering questions about states in the Northeast region). They will also be assessed on the closure quiz about the Northeast and whether or not their exit slips provided a significant answer. 1.8 Materials/Equipment A. 1.9 Technology I am using a powerpoint with the jeopardy game on it. 2.1 Reflection on Planning Writing this lesson was more difficult than I thought it would be. I chose to use jeopardy as the review game because it is a game that a lot of students are familiar with and its a fun way to review what was learned throughout the lesson. It also is a good way to have students work together to come up with answers. Its good for assessing because the teacher can see who is participating in conversations and who is not and the teacher can assess whether the students took in the content that was taught throughout the lesson. What made this lesson difficult was compiling all of the information we taught throughout the lesson. It was hard to choose which information to use for the jeopardy game and turning the information into questions. The only concern I have about this lesson is time management. I would worry if I would have enough time to get through the whole game and through the ending quiz.
