Identify as a professional social worker and conduct oneself accordingly

Core Competency: 1

Advocate for client access to the services of social work. I will become more aware of the resources in the community in order to provide each client with what they are seeking.

Practice Behavior: 1.1

Practice personal reflection and selfcorrection to assure continual professional development The NASW Code of Ethics, as well as my own values has provided me with the things that I need to understand in order to maintain professional and of good judgment in the field; if I am ever uncertain of anything I will speak with my supervisor and/or instructor for reassurance.

Practice Behavior: 1.2

Attend to professional roles and boundaries I will follow the departments policies and procedures and make sure that I fully understand what is being asked of me.

Demonstrate professional demeanor in behavior. I will continue to do so by being present, being timely, and when working with clients accept their right to confidentiality and give them the same respect that I would anyone else.

Appearance and Communication I will speak in a professional manner and abide by the departments guidelines for their dress code.

Engage in career-long learning and use supervision and consultation. I want to gain knowledge in every aspect of the department in order to conduct change and succeed in the profession. If there is anything that I am unclear of or that I feel I have not learned and would like to know more about I will speak with my supervisor in order to engage more.

Core Competency: 2

Recognize and manage personal values in a way that allows professional values to guide practice As a social worker I will not force any personal beliefs or values towards my clients and I will support their decisions and not be of judgment.

Make ethical decisions by applying standards of the NASW Code of Ethics and, as applicable, of the International Federation of Social Workers/ International Association of Schools of Social Work Ethics in Social Work, Statement of Principles I will follow the guidelines set by the NASW and at my best, make ethical decisions based off of my knowledge. Anything uncertain I will consult with my supervisor/instructor.

Tolerate ambiguity in resolving ethical conflicts. If ever I feel that I am faced with ethical dilemmas I will bring them to my supervisors attention and together we will sort through.

Apply strategies of ethical reasoning to arrive at principled decisions. I will use what I have gained from prior situations to make ethical decisions for similar cases.

I will take what I have learned in my practice, the agencys guidelines and the NASW code of ethics and apply them accurately with each client and throughout my internship.

Analyze models of assessment, preventions, interventions, and evaluation.. I will make sure that I have a clear knowledge to the forms of assessments, that I identify all preventions ,that I know how and when to apply interventions, and evaluate the case firmly.

Demonstrate effective oral and written communications in working with individuals, families, groups, organizations, communities, and colleagues I will do so by giving appropriate feed back and making sure that I am reiterating what a client is saying so that the statements are not misconstrued. As well as using professional communication skills.

Recognize the extent to which a cultures structures and values may oppress, marginalize, alienate, or create or enhance privilege and power I will note that there are different cultures throughout the Bladen Community and not let my beliefs and personal values bring bias to my work.

Gain sufficient self-awareness to eliminate the influence of personal biases and values in working with diverse groups. I well learn more about the cultural make up in Bladen County and allow myself to assist them accordingly; leaving personal beliefs that may cause bias out.

Recognize and communicate their understanding of the importance of difference in shaping life experiences. I will always allow them to express themselves and the things that are important to them as well has helping them see those measures through.

View themselves as learners and engage those with whom they work as informants. I will continue to report to my supervisor when things are unclear and to gain more knowledge about a case or just general education of the position.

Understand the forms and mechanisms of oppression and discrimination. I will consult with my supervisor and other workers to completely understand how oppression and discrimination is handled when dealing with clients.

Use practice experience to inform scientific inquiry I will gain as much knowledge as possible in reference to the community, the child welfare and the job title in order to do my job effectively.

Utilize conceptual frameworks to guide the processes of assessment, intervention and evaluation. I will use all necessary procedures to complete assessments and to understand the clients needs and circumstances.

Critique and apply knowledge to understand person and environment. I will identify the issues and the needs of the county atmosphere and use it effectively when working with a client.

Analyze, formulate, and advocate for policies that advance social well-being. I will grasp a clear understanding of the policies so that I can be sure that my clients have the same understanding in order to progress.

Collaborate with colleagues and clients for effective policy action. I will work with any one who is involved with my clients regarding confidential information that will help me further assess and planning.

I will get familiar with the resources in the community and use them to help me with solving any dilemma that is at hand.

Provide leadership in promoting sustainable changes in service delivery and practice to improve the quality of social services. I will take part in everything that is done by my department and give my input on new ideas and help with making changes to whatever is needed to improve.

Substantively and affectively prepare for action with individuals, families, groups, organizations, and communities As a social worker I will be sure to review my clients file, gaining knowledge of the at hand situation in order to effectively asses their case.

Use empathy and other interpersonal skills When speaking with a client, I will make eye contact and listen to he/she without interrupting. I will work on my body language and facial expressions so that I do not offend in any way.

Develop mutually agreed upon focus of work Every morning I receive an email from my supervisor with my task for the day; if anything changes she will notify me. On my down time I give a hand at Bladen Crisis Center.

Collect, organize, and interpret data After I receive a referral, I will contact the client to meet and discuss the alleged report and collect as much information as possible. I will then interpret the information with my supervisor and organize a plan to further asses the needs of the family.

Assess client strengths and limitations I will ask my client to identify what they believe may be his/her strengths and weaknesses; I will elaborate their response.

Develop mutually agreed-on intervention goals and objectives. Based on 10.5 we will work together to develop intervention goal(s) and objectives to follow through.

Select appropriate intervention strategies We will also discuss the appropriate strategies to asses our intervention stated in 10.6.

Initiate actions to achieve organizational goals Create a brochure for CPS clients so that they are aware of what takes place when they have been referred to the Department of Social Services.

Implement prevention interventions that enhance client capacities. I will discuss with my supervisor the appropriate method of prevention for child abuse and neglect.

Help clients resolve problems As a social worker it is my job to assist clients in problem solving. I will allow him/her to make their own decisions as I provide him/her with the proper resources to do so.

Negotiate, mediate, and advocate for clients . I will negotiate, mediate and advocate for my clients in caseworker staffing as well as in the courts.

Facilitate transitions and endings I will discuss with my supervisor and fellow caseworkers the appropriate assessments for transitioning and ending every case that I am responsible for.

Critically analyze, monitor, and evaluate interventions. To be sure that the intervention set in place for my clients are working effectively, I will analyze and monitor his/her progress and evaluate it accordingly.
