Project Descri tion

My project is centered on me creating a themed lesson plan that will address the four areas of child development. I wanted to make certain that I would be able to use the knowledge learned in my classroom in a real live child care center. I have learned about fine motor and gross motor skills. It is going to be important for me to create activities that would fall under those categories. I want my lesson plan to include: reading, math, science and

hands on activities.

esearch says !cademic e"cellence is one of the primary benefits of reading to toddlers and

preschoolers are a higher aptitude for learning in general. #umerous studies have shown that students who are e"posed to reading before preschool are more likely to do well in all facets of formal education. I wrote a letter to Ms. $a%onia &amp the 'amily (upport (ervices &oordinator at (heltering !rms )arly learning &enter to get permission to work with the preschool students .(he agreed to allow me to work with Ms. (heneka in room *. oom * is home to +, preschool children. %hey are a very busy and lively bunch. I know this because I completed my '&&$! project last year in that classroom. I created a weekly lesson plan that will address reading, math, science along with some creative hands on activities. !ll activities will focus on the four areas of child development along with the motor skills. I am currently studying the four area of child development in my early childhood education program. My lesson plan will address: Cognitive Development, Social Development, Emotional Development and Physical Development. My lesson plan will also include activities that fall under fine motor skills and gross motor skills. My project will introduce small children to raccoons, various pu--les, lacing cards and paper bag puppets. My project was born from the interactive raccoon named .atson housed in my early childhood education classroom. .atson comes with three different books. .hen you pick up the book, the first thing you notice would be that certain sentences are in a special color. .hen you read the sentence, .atson responds. /ids love it. I love it. 'or my project, .atson is serving as the central theme. !ll of the activities will be focused around .atson. 0y the way1 .atson is a aacoon2
